From wakefulness to HI

Okay, is there a good, quick way (other than WBTB) to get from wakefulness to hypnagogic imagery, in order to use the HI tech to get a WILD? I’ve tried some of the relaxation techs like progressive relaxation and the 61-point tech, but they haven’t worked for me, or I have done something wrong. Any help here?

Yeah, I’ve already tried that. It always seems I fall asleep before hitting REM, or I never get to REM because I can’t relax enough.
