Quite a lot of my friends and relatives know what LD'ing is and that I'm doing it but they are very skeptical about it. I don't care whether I seem weird to them, though.

For me the "I will know I'm dreaming" hasn't worked at all. Maybe try saying something like "tonight, while dreaming, I will do a nose RC". It may sound somewhat long and weird but ...

Well, everything I've eaten in LD's has tasted pretty much like nothing or somewhat similar to water.

It took somewhere around 2 months to have my very first LD but the first vivid and relitively long one came after 6 or so.

How do i get myself to wake up on my own without an alarm clock?

As mentioned before, use auto-suggestion. The first time I tried it, I woke up only 10 minutes after the time I wanted to.

Have you tried a mantra for this kind of case? When going to sleep, repeat to yourself over and over again that you'll remember your dreams and it might work. I've found mantras to be extremely succes ...
