A diary to be used by all... The Nightmare Diary

This is one I have a lot.
It usually is spawned by a failed reality check. When the reality check says, “This is reality”, I say to myself, “I can’t believe it! I just saw a humongous dreamsign, no it has to be a dream!” At this point, I find myself lying down, sensing something wrong, as this pulsing starts. I try to get control, but nothing happens, I then get scared into a FA, or a real awakening.

Normally I don’t have nightmares, but today I had one. In fact it was a lucid nightmare.

I was lying in my bed and realised I was dreaming. The sun was shining bright and I was lying on the bed and just looking at my room, amazed by how real everything looked. But then I lost lucidity and the dream adjusted itself to reality (In rl I closed the blinds before going to sleep) and the whole house got dark.
Something was after me. At first I screamed as loud as I could but nothing happened. Then I think I got lucid again because I tried to jump through my wall or my window to end the nightmare. It didn’t work, I jumped against the wall and it hurt pretty bad (I guess it’s my own fault because I was expecting that I couldn’t escape that easy), I even thought about writing that down when I would wake up.
My last chance was waking myself up, I had to try it a few times and when I woke up I was in SP for a few seconds.

This one was very scary for me. I absolutely hate normal screamers, but this one was too much…

ARGH! SCREAMER!

I was sitting at my computer with my cousin, and we were both happy about what was on the computer. :ding: Then a countdown started, a 5 second countdown. I knew what would happen, so i went semi-lucid and covered my eyes. However, when the countdown was complete i forgot to cover my ears, and all i heard was a piercing scream. I looked up and saw a mutilated face on the screen, which was the face of my cousin. I woke up absolutely terrified.

Heres a nightmare I had that was terryfing on the moment but funny at awaken.

Nightmare - A strange camping - Apr 8, 2006

We were in a big camper that we have. You know camper thhat you go with to camping. Anyway I was
in a strange parking and we were parked there. My mother and father were sitting outdoor and there
was some other old friend of my parents (JandJo,De…) . I look at them and I find one women very
attractive but I dont mind.

Im in the camper a litterally playing PSP into it. This moment last very long . I play a lot and don’y
yhink about my surrounding. Dont rememevbr however what I was playing.

Suddenly the door from the driver chair open. I look at it and its a man with two other people that need
to take the CB (you know the object that big truck have to communicat eon the road with each other)
to talk to someone. I dont mind and they say nothing at all . I just was thinking that if he just have to
take the CB theres nothing dangerous.

False thinking of mine ! Suddenly the camper begin to move really fast. My mother jump into the
camper for whatever reason (maybe save me) and my father is still at the camping. We jump into the
command and wheel but nothing work. Brakes and wheel dont work.

We are checking our surrounding and its was exactly like the man from before haved put a micro virus
into the camper that can control it. I was terrifying. The surrounding landscape is very like european
country. Theres big narrow that turn everywhere road , theres tree everywhere and look like a lots of
camping site. Theres the ocean at some point that are right beside us so its very dangerous.

Suddenly we pass by a strange camping and I know its the camping site of the enemy that put a virus
into the camper. I remember that there always a Baseball bat into the camper so if thing get rough on
vacation we could use it. So I take it and say to myself that I will fight the one that did this to us.

Suddenly we go straight into the river . We couldnt do anything. . The road is straight ahead and go into
the river for a big altitude distance. So in moment of danger I open the side door to jump into the river
if we hit it. So I dont jump while we are in the air.

I wait till the water flood and I swim throughout out of it. It was very hard to swim to the surface. It
took me 3 to 4 time to pass through the door. The camper was very moving.

After that I awake glad that I did not die.

Id like to start off by saying hi, my name is noah, but you can call me Hissy. My Nightmare is really one of the first things i can remember, and definately one of the about 3 lucid dreams I can remember.

Ok. So it happened sometime around when i was 3-4. I wake up from a nap. Its late in the evening…and I go downstairs and talk to my family and grab a snack. I take another nap, but wake up soon after it. I check around for somebody, something, but nobodys there. Not my brothers, or my parents. In despiration, I run to my parents bedroom, but no ones there. Im all alone, in the dark, and incrediably scared. This is where i woke up, panting and sweating, and run quickly downstairs, and to my delight, my familys setting on the couch. Still one of the scariest memories I have. Im sure it doesnt seem too scary to you, but its an indescrible feeling of descertedness, total helplessness. I don’t know why it freaks me out, but it does…

moved into nightmare diary since it was becoming another topic filled with nightmares :moogle: (5 June)
Well first I have been lurking on these forums for as long as I have been trying to lucid dream, about a 2 months. Anyway last night I had a VERY vivid ND, I was in this forest that I now recognize as the one behind a family friends farm, anyway I was walking down this path and I was looking at the sky which was a brilliant dark green color, all of a sudden there were a bunch of spinning lights in the sky and the most menacing horror music I ever heard pounding through the woods, I started running and running, I can’t even explain how scared I was, it was 100X more intense then any fear I have felt in real life, I was running and running through the woods and I didint even know what I was scared of. Then I woke up in my bed, I was dripping in sweat and breathing hard, worst and most embarassing of all was I had pissed in my shorts… I don’t have a clue why I was so scared but I couldnt get back to sleep after that.

i think this type of dream must be quite common. you have the most frightening dream of your life, and wake up thinking “huh?”

your dream setting does seem quite eerie though. dark green sky, deep in a forest. what i don’t understand about dreams is why your brain does not work as it would in real life. if it did, you would (obviously?) have run to your friends house at even the slightest feeling of danger…

when i have nightmares, i sometimes wake up sweating, scared to the point of sweat. when i wake up and think about why i’m actually sweating, i realise it’s nothing and think to myself “what am i on?!”

one example is in my dream journal. lemme fetch it.

fetch

okay, so the koala bear hissed. but it’s a koala bear >.>

I have a history of being terrified of extremely stupid things in dreams. Once, for example, I was unable to get back to sleep after a dream where a girl looked at me from inside a TV set, and her eye swiveled around hand had another eye in the back. There was also one where I was scared half to death when a bead that I had dropped on the floor screamed at me and started to move. I kind of stopped telling my dreams after my parents laughed at me for that one.

Basically what I’ve found is that it really doesn’t have to be scary at all for it to scare you.

the first one was when i was being chased by someone and it felt as though as hard as i tried it was hard to run. really hard. and i was chased by a dead relative.

2nd one was when i came home from school at night ( dont know why ) and i opened the door and my family was sitting together on a very long couch and their eyes were rolled back and with bloody tears. and then i said… GUYS ??? and my whole family turned around at me in unison rapidly and thats when i was jolted awake

Oh man this reminded me of the most disturbing dream I ever had, I walked into this abandon barn out in the middle of no where, you know those things with the metal balls that you pull one back and let it fall then it bumps the rest and it keeps going? Well there was a huge one of those, but instead of metal balls there were disfigured dead babys bouncing off eachother really fast, it was a horribly evil sight.

wow that must have been terrifying

I watched the movie “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, based off a novel. I was much younger, but I had 4 dreams in the 4 consecuive nights following the movie where lava was going to kill me. You see, the thing is, the ending scene of the movie shows our heroes in a lost city under a volcano. I suppose if there’s one thing I’m scared of, it is not having anything solid beneath my feet to run on. So when the ground breaks and gives way to the lava, I get the funny feeling it could happen to me.

It was night, and a surveyor was in the street inspecting a recent crack in it with a faint orange glow coming from it. I ran out of the house after our cat in the direction of the surveyor. He warned of danger, and then the ground in front of me started breaking up. The ground was as floating icebergs in a sea of lava. I ran back home, where the ground hadn’t broken up yet. I went to the 2nd floor of the house (which also was a lighthouse or aircraft control tower. I was watching as the ground broke up all the way down the street and approached our house. I saw mom and dad in the drieway. I was like, “run guys, run!” They stood there staring up at me probably wondering, wtf? I decided to take action. I grabbed the car keys and got in the car, started it up, and took off the road perpendicular to the one that was breaking up. At this point a giant lava wave had formed and was in close pursuit. The road I was on hit a dead end, and I hit the brakes at the end. I looked out the back window of the car right as the wave of lava come crashing down on me.

Before and after going to sleep, I was hallucinating about lava pouring over the bookshelves and the ground breaking up. Totally scarry.

These days I try to fight whatever would usually scare me. I had a dream where I punched the boogyman’s face flat.

Fight what scares you. Pull out a knife and say, “you want a piece of me? I’ll cut you!!!11!1!one”
That’s my solution nowadays.

Hehe, I hope you’re not like that in real life

My dream last night was kind of like a flashback to my grandfather’s funeral in '96, his last wishes were to see my sister and I before he died, but we couldn’t make it happen (he was ~2,000 miles away and I was in school). Since he was always dear to me it was hard going to his funeral, I was a kid so I didn’t understand death. But last night I was back in the funeral home with my family and grandmother, except all the walls floor resembeled rivited sheet metal and the body was just lying on a metal altar with a sheet over it. I was trying to speak to my grandmother but her and everyone else were just staring straight ahead, an uneasy silence set in and it felt like I was alone. I looked over at the body and he was sitting up staring me directly in the eye ( ), then I woke up.

I wouldn’t call this a nightmare because I was more startled and shocked instead of scared. I also believe that it didn’t click that I was dreaming since it was based on a past experience (except for the really strange parts), so I wouldn’t call this a bonafide nightmare but it certainly was spooky…

I used to have recurring dreams about dinosaurs. The last dream I had of dinosaurs was a nice one though, it contained a t-rex and it was friendly. This dream, however, was quite scary.

I was in a deserted theme park with a my best friend (Steph), my brother (Neil) and some other people I didn’t recognize. The first dinosaur was a t-rex. He chased us around but there were little secret places where we could hide. We dodged him and we all fell down this dark hole and landed in a kind of cave. In the centre of it was another hole which was the top of a red slide. We had no other choice but to go down this slide.

Everyone vanished apart from Neil and I. The end of the slide was in a dark house. The t-rex was in the kitchen (behind us, I don’t know how he fitted in the room) and we were in the corner of the living room. I decided to run for it, out of the house. I would have made it but my brother ran after me. The dinosaur saw us, it sort of roared and ran after us. I woke up at this point.

I lay down in bed for a while before I decided to go back to sleep.

This time, I was with Steph and the dinosaur was an velociraptor. We both hid. Even though velociraptors can see properly (their vision isn’t based on movement like t-rexes) in the dream the dinosaur’s vision was based on movement. Steph stayed still but I moved because I didn’t want to stay anywhere near the dinosaur. It walked straight past Steph and came towards me. I woke up before it actually saw me or got the chance to kill me.

The dreams don’t feel scary now but when I dreamt them they were terrifying.

I remember my very first nightmare. hehe…

I was six…

I had a dream I woke up and was getting readdy for school and i was walking through the dining room to go wake my parents up for some reason(they usually woke me up). About half way through all the power went out and it was completely dark. My dad and mom ran into the kitchen with a flashlight and we looked at the glass door and there were a shocking monkey as i called them on it. lol…it was a little monkey like a foot tall with yellow electricity all around it and it like stuck to stuff. My dad went into my sisters bedroom to wake her up and i followed and i saw him start to turn on the light and I yelled “no!” and he turned it on and he got electricuted and died.

I was SOOOOO sad when i woke up. I was crying and screaming.

Oh what an awful dream. I couldn’t help but laugh about the monkey, but I know I would have been terrified too =S

I once dreamed I was in this huge house we supposedly bought, and I started exploring it alone. I get lost inside and this ghost-man leads me into a garden. In there, I see my mother and a friend of mine laughing and waiting for me, but there’s something wrong: I walk towards the far side of the garden and there’s a small graveyard. In the first’s grave inscription I read my name, and then find myself buriend inside. I got really scared, because I could still see them (my mom and friend) walking around the park but I was buried alive. I woke up and almost jumped off the bed.

First though… i want to ask…
Metagog: Was your metallic sky / shrinking nightmare one of those fever-dreams? it sounds very abstract like the fever-dreams i have (fever dreams are the worst… see mine below)

Anyway, I haven’t had my recurring nightmare in alnost 10 years, it started when i was 5 though so it occurred for about 15 years I’d say. The subject of my nightmare is Kermit the Frog. Yes that’s right, but he’s notsilly or nice he’s really creepy in these dreams. He runs toward me with his spindly arms shaking around crazily, and when he reaches me he tickles me. Tickles me… to death? It’s not clear because it’s at that point that I wake up. The very first one happened like this (keep in mind i was five).
I want a snack from the drawer in the kitchen which is for stroing bread but also goodies such as coffe-cakes and ring-dings. My mom says I may not have one. So in response to this, as I walk toward the bread drawer anyway, I say “poop”. (Remember I’m five). I’m calling my mom a poop. But I hear the word repeat back to me from far off. I say “stop that”, and the words “stop that” repeat back to me again from far away. I look toward the source of the voice. Far in the next room, peeking through the sliding glass patio door, is Kermit the Frog. When I see him he runs toward me and when he reaches me, tickles me and I almost immediately wake up.

The fear of Kermit the Frog probably originates from a couple things. When I was young there was a bizarre skit/episode of Sesame Street where Kermit is in the swamp, and a ghostlike version of kermit runs toward the camera wi8th arms waving wildly. There was some song that this went along with but I don’t remember what the point of it was, I do remember though that it was in fact real and quite creepy. Second, I had a Sesame Street record when i was very young (4 or 5) which I would listen to on my toy record player. There was a song that I beleive Grover sings in his scratchy voice about a lost dog. During this song on one occasion the record skipped, and it kept repeating in that strange voice “i lost my, dog/ i lost my, dog…”. It scared the crap out of me! Thirdly, Kermit while cute to some is honestly just creepy-looking. ultra-thin gangly limbs, freaky ping-pong ball eyes with oddly shaped pupils, that weird many-pointed collar around his neck… and most importantly, his weird muppet-like movements. The one that really gets me (even now) is that face he makes when he’s mad, and his mouth sucks inward and tightens, and then Kermit shakes in anger and turns to the camera… Yuck!
I have no idea what the tickling was about. Maybe just any kid’s “fear” of tickling, fear meaning the game of the parent saying “I’m going to tickle you / I’m gonna get you” and you running away from Mom/Dad/whoever in pseudo-fear and them catching you and tickling you “against your will” so to speak.

Anyway, that was my recurring nightmare for years and years until maybe early college (at that point I had told my roommates about it and they made a lot of jokes/pranks about it so I think the act of talking about it often erased the scaryness of it). The dream pattern always was: something strange would happen, and I’d test the waters so to speak and call out something ot look around, and I just knew that I’d turn and see Kermit in the near distance, or that he’d be about to barge into the bedroom. Then he’d reach me / the bed, tickle me, dream over.
In semi-lucid dreams in the past, I would actually conjur him up purposely to end a creepy or annoying dream (I knew I’d wake up after he got me). As time went on, I could escape Kermit, or defeat him somehow although by bizarre dreamly means. For instance, one time I defeated him by taking the lawn mower and running it through a puddle of water Kermit was standing in/by, which caused the water to rise somehow (in a vertical column) and drown him.

Also on this topic, the last time I definitely recall dreaming about Kermit was a hypnogogic nightmare I had in highschool. I was laying on my back, drifting to sleep. However, I never lost conciousness (obviously), I could feel and preceive the transition to dreamland. I could still see my bedroom, but i could hear slithery things approaching and I couldn’t move (sleep paralysis). the slithery things were like lizards that i could feel crawling on the bed covers. I looked up and saw Kermit, making an extra creepy face with really awful looking eyes. I woke up afraid to go back to sleep because I was worried the dreams would come before I was fully asleep again. Hypnogogic hallucinations are scary as hell! I think the “old hag” is a great name for those by the way.

Finally, here’s that fever-nightmare I promised. I had this while sleeping in my mom’s bed age 7 maybe, early evening, bedside lamp still on, sweaty hot and unconfortable with a fever… I dreamed of a completely white place, perfectly featureless white. There were black blobs on it, they were roundish and in 3-d , but very abstract, black objects. Here’s the best I could describe the “action” of the dream: there were big black things, and there were small black things. It was mostly a horrible sick sensation I felt during the dream, this horrible abstract thought of big and small things and feeling of things growing/shrinking but not sure which was actually happening or if they both were simultaneously. I don’t think there were any sounds except maybe for pseudo-voices which still seemed half in my mind and didn’t say anything intelligible, just echoey thoughts. YUCK
Very abstract like metagog’s shrinking metallic world, that’s why i asked if it was a fever-dream also.

So those are my top nightmares. I don’t have too many anymore thankfully, at worst it’s mostly dreams about highschool college where I have to take a test that I’m totally unprepared for, have something due that day that I haven’t even started on, late for classes / not knowing where my classes are etc. Sometimes there’s a rationale for why I’m back in highschool or college, but mostly I either just accept it or have a nagging feeling of why am I in school?

Sorry for the extra-long post, especially given that it’s my first!! (I just wrote down my first dream journal this morning…)

A very scary nightmare I recently had started out a school dream, then a video game and eventually a nightmare. The whole video game was a recycled dream I guess, from somebody else, or from me, with parts of real video games, movies etc… It ended as there were a few people in some kind of house. There was this huge metal door that was going to close. I shot some kind of rocket in it, like the ones from Super Mario and it went into the door before it closed, so it was in the house with the people. This was wrong. It had to close before the rocket goes in, or I shouldn’t even shoot the rocket, or something like that. So I had to do it again. But I had to wait until this scene was over, to start out new. I couldn’t press “reset” on my “console” because I guess it would erase my saved files. So I suddenly saw the inside of this house. I was watching the people inside the house. They were about to die. I knew it, because there was this rocket (now it was outside and I was waiting for the time it shot against the door and everybody is dead, I guess). I saw the people live and every little moment they were about to die, I was soooo scared of this moment when they were there and the lights just went out, their life was at the end. I saw them and waited and waited. They were still alive. The scene changed and there was a text “September something”. It was icy. Inside the house. It was winter (in September, yeah, stupid), showing that they survived so long, the rocket still didn’t explode yet, which showed the huge cruelness of this whole thing. There was a baldheaded girl with her child now. It was some kind of a survival tragedy. She said to her child “YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE A NAME” and the next thing I know she was crying and saying “yes, you have a name, you’re Robby, it’s all good”. And I was still waiting for the death. What then happened I don’t know. I think I pressed reset (which symbolized the death of those people also) and woke up. It could also be though, that I saw how it ended. You can’t imagine how terryfing it was for me to see people die. I wouldn’t see them die, like you see people die, I would just see the black screen, because I was all those people myself, it was myself who would know how it was if everything ends.

I think your emotions in dreams are very intense, lol.

i also have this recurring dream involving a black panther in a dark bungalow. It’s night time and the lights are all blown out, we go into this bungalow on a farm but the bungalow is set into a corn field, but also situated on the road. There is a black panther in the house under the table, and its really scary. Then the house burns down.
