How did YOU learn to LD?

I had SP very often, and went to do research on sleep. Eventually I learned about LD and was instantly interested in it. I tried for about four months to have a LD, and never did so I gave up. Then one night while I was dreaming I noticed my sisters hair was extremely shorter then it actually was. So rather randomly I learned to LD. Dream signs and RCs is the only thing that has worked for me so far.

I think i was 6-8 years old when i had my first ld
i would go around random times in a dream saying ‘this is not a dream’; eventually i did that in a dream and realized i was dreaming, but i knew it was a dream even though i didn’t do a reality check, and i still don’t need to do a reality check =]

I was 12-ish when I had my first LD. It took me 2/3 months to achieve my first one. It was very hard, I did RCs every 15 minutes. I heard about LDing over the Internet, no one else in family (that I know of) has had a LD.

All my LDs in the past have been DILDs. I’m trying to find another technique that will suit me because I don’t like performing RC every 15 minutes.

Well i tried Lucid Dreaming for months with no success
My first LD was a DILD and has usual i got way to excited and woke up,But nonetheless I was still very happy!
Now i use a combination of WBTB+WILD and it works…sometimes =P.

um, i had my first lucid dream last nite after going on this site for the first time! weeee! it was fuuuuun. and surprisingly easy…but it was really short.like, 10 minutes

ok, here are some questions for all of the ADVANCED LDers: how often do u LD? is it easier to do so after the first time, or was i just lucky? how do i make dreams longer?

I can’t remember my dreams very good, but I had my first LD 10 days after I started my DJ. I guess I’m lucky :content: cause I wasn’t really trying to LD, I was trying to remember.

Well, there was this book, learning you to do “cool” stuff…And one of them was controlling your dreams! It basically explained MILD. It didnt mention anything about lucid dreams though.

Well, I just would always think about dreaming after I found this site. So, every night I would just fall asleep wake up and think “what did I dream about” and if I don’t remember all of a sudden what it was I’d just do what I do normally and after I while I’d remember what happened! After remembering became common I would stay in bed after I wake up just think about the dream and every detail I can remember so it would I stick. After my first lucid dream I for some reason wasn’t able to remember my dreams as well as I did before being lucid. So, I started to write my dreams down in a dream journal and I’m remembering again, and become more lucid. :3

It took me about 2 months till I had my first LD…

First I read an article about lucid dreaming on a Norwegian forum, and later I found a link to the Ld4all guide and this forum. I read a lot about lucid dreaming and got my first LD three nights after I read the guide. I just realized I was dreaming, and didn’t have to do a RC (I did one just in case though).The feeling when I got lucid that time felt very familiar, and I’m sure I’ve had LDs before when I was younger.

My first LDs didn’t last for very long, but my 5th LD lasted for 20-25 minutes. I’m practising WILD at the moment, but I also use a mix of RCs and autosuggestion, sometimes MILD, and I’ve tried FILD a couple of times.

I “think” I originally developed lucid dreaming as a way to escape nightmares when I was much younger (5-6). For some reason the fear I felt and the idea of “monsters” led me to realize that I must be in a dream (possibly the fact that something like this couldn’t EVER happen IRL).

At first I would only use the realization to escape a dream. I came to the conclusion that, if I was in a dream, the logical way to escape would be to fall asleep. This idea seemed to work quickly and was very effective for nightmares (although I’d still be scared when I woke up :cry: ).

Eventually, as I started having lucid occurrences outside of nightmare specific dreams, I became more confident in what I could achieve while lucid, and nightmares seemed to stop happening altogether.

I’ve been lucid dreaming on a somewhat regular basis ever since, and I’ve only recently begun trying the MILD or WILD techniques to induce them more frequently, and they’ve already seemed to help some :grin: .

im learning to ld with FILD, its worked almost every time

I’d say MILD + WBTB were my beginning techniques. I found a large list called the lucid dreaming FAQ. I think it was on the lucidity institutes’s site. It lead here. Long live DILDs!

I used to get them randomly, but I couldn’t chose when really. Then I found this site. First day after, my dream was so vague that I could only remember very very slight things. Second day, I remembered much more. Third day, LUCID DREAM :smile:. For me, Just trying to remember what my dreams were helps me remember allot the next time and makes me more aware in dreams. The instant I fell asleep after waking up last night, I was just like LUICD DREAM. There was nothing to really tell me, I just knew instantly.

I learned to LD through logic.

I told myself, “Hey, chemically if I eat a banana I should be able to have excellent recall and then I can do DILD.”

It worked. And then one night I forgot to eat my banana and had the same vividness of dreams. I then figured, “Hey! I guess I can just remember dreams naturally now… there’s probably a scientific explanation…”

So… :grin:

I allready had LD’s when I was younger…
But I didn’t knew they were called Lucid Dreams,
or that there would be people that talked about it :tongue:.

My first LD was all on my own, before I had heard of LDing.
I waisted the entire dream on finding a way out of the dream.
Then I had another useless LD like the one above, but after that I heard a cartoon character on telly (telly is actually a very stupid word) say that you could do what ever you wanted in a dream.
So the next time I knew I was dreaming, I tried to fly of a cliff.
…and fell down into a painfully death.

But later I found this site, and started a dream journal.

The first lucid dream that i can remember having was when i was eight yrs old my sister and i were walking through the desert when a clown came up to us and asked if we wanted an ice cream. I started thinking to myself that it was strange for a clown to be in the desert and then why we were there. I remembered My Ma sayin that you dont get hurt in your dreams and so i bit my lip as hard as i could and felt nothing. Ilooked at the clown and he laughed and i said this is a dream and then woke up. after that it was random for years when i’d have one and when i did i would wake up as soon as i realised it was a dream. Then a couple of years ago i came across this sight and have slowly been getting better and gaining control of my dreams. reality checks are the biggest thing for mei do them all the time all day every day sooner or later i’ll be dreaming when i do one.

I think one of the most important things about achieving lucid dreaming is practicing all the time and never giving up or forgetting that you want a lucid dream. This includes always using practice techniques in reality to lucid dream…
