5-HTP
PostPosted: Sat 22 Nov, 2008  Reply with quote

I wanted to respond to a few posts here.

1. 5-HTP is not found in cheese. Tryptophan is found in cheese. Tryptophan becomes in part 5-HTP.

2. Sadly brand will matter as many companies use low quality herbs latent with pesticides and other nasties. GNC sucks. That is my opinion as a nutritionist.

3. I have taken 5-HTP for long periods of time with only positive results. I stopped taking it without problem.

This is something that is naturally produced by the body. The problem is that there is an extremely poor understanding of proper nutrition out there. Peoples diets tend to either lack tryptophan and peoples small intestines tend not to absorb nutrients from their food and supplements. Also serotonin production is greatly hampered by our stressful modern lives which are so full of pollutants.

http://www.whale.to/cancer/k/Chapter_4.html here is a link were you can find information on the why around the small intestine bit.

From taking 5-HTP that is tounge2

No I didn't. I only take either one or two tabs 50mg each.

This night I took 1 tablet and had a long sequence of dreams, very vivid. Even dreamt of an earthquaked town, with all the rubble. Went lucid once I think but lost lucidity soon.. sadblauw

I'm trying to eat turkey whenever possible for the tryptophan content.

My 5-HTP is HealthAid's. I'm also experimenting at the moment with green tea extract, that's interesting stuff.

I just bought NutraStore's 5HTP 50mg x30 for £4.50 which is quite cheap. Really looking forward to trying them out.

I took 2 x 50mg tabs 4 hours ago but I just couldn't get to sleep which is quite worrying and annoying. I think this is down to the fact that i'm pretty ill at the moment and not to do with taking the 5-HTP.

Well it's a shame since I was looking forward to my dreams tonight. I'll have to re-try tomorrow night smile

Since my mom has some, she now takes it every night as a sleeping aid too, so I thought I would try it...

Didn't remember my dream but I was like... knocked out from sleepiness!

Oh, and I'm a tad bit of an insomniac...

EDIT: brand is Natrol....

Current LD goal(s): Erm... have one.

I can confirm that 5-HTP does infact increase the vividness of dreams by quite a large margin.

I wouldn't be using this too often. As the wikipedia article states, it does cause problems (like mild serotonin toxicity, which causes tremors and strong bowel movements). For the most part, only use it if you really need it, like on weekends (which I assume to be the days that most people attempt their LD-ing). Stay safe guys

I'm heading down to my local supplement store, I found they have this half price: £7.50 for 60x50mg capsules grin

EDIT: Not sure if this has been answered before but I'd like to clear it up: The large amounts of Vitamin B6 in the drugs are there to help the enzymes break it down into serotonin and to get rid of any excess in the body.

How queer...I guess it's because they must use a higher dose of 5-HTP at a pharmacy? I'm not sure.

Could try any supplement shops? (Can't really help out too much here: Living in the UK, the only shop we have is Holland And Barrett neutral )

Other than that, I guess you'll have to order online.

The website of the ministry of health is a-MAZE-thing. ...

But i will continue my recherche yes
As far as i see it will be worth it ..
