Big "SP as a gateway to WILD" topic

Lately I’ve been having trouble with SP.

Whenever I’m having a hard time falling asleep (especially if I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, I’ll automatically start going into SP without falling asleep. Basically my body says “You are going to sleep NOW, whether you like it or not!” but my brain says “No, I don’t want to!” So I end up in SP, having to deal with the vibrating and weird noises (I usually get pretty bad HI), unable to move for what feels like several minutes. I just wait it out and eventually I “wake up” and can move again. But I still haven’t gotten any sleep! This cycle can repeat itself two or three times a night, and no matter how hard I try, I can’t fall asleep through the distracting HI.

Anyone know how to get past this? If I can’t fall asleep into a normal dream while conscious during SP, how will I ever learn how to WILD so that it turns into a lucid dream? SP isn’t as scary to me now as it used to be, but it’s still not pleasant to deal with when you really just want some real sleep.

Sleep paralysis is both extremely interesting and extremely helpful; I have found it to lead to the most “real” lucid dreams. A lot of people define it as waking up but not being able to move your body, but this is the wrong way to think of it. Basically its just your brain waking up, slowly becoming aware of the inhibitory effects sleep produces on your body. You just can “feel” the muscle atonia (disconnection of brain and body)! This awareness is the most important part of lucid dreaming. You must first become conscious as you would be in daily life (versus a dream state of confusion and incoherence). The only problem here is that you’re not dreaming, you’re just asleep and you know it!
Getting into a dream from sleep paralysis is actually MUCH easier than it seems; once I figured it out I have never failed getting through this transition. Most people who can’t do it are imposing a dreamlike attitude towards their power over their mind; they rely on random, uncontrollable factors to drag them into a dream world. During sleep paralysis you are now conscious and must act as though you were awake. My point is that you can’t just wait for a dream to randomly appear; it won’t. You have to will and imagine it. Its good to think about it as you would day dreaming. As youre laying in bed, purposefully imagine where you would like to go. Picture yourself in that place; what does it look like? what can you hear? Can you touch, taste, or smell anything? Before you know it you will BE there, and thanks to sleep paralysis you are lucid!
I’ve found it easiest to start in my room. I can’t move my body but I try to imagine what it would be like if I could. I imagine sitting up and eventually getting out of bed, then I realize that by imaging it i really did it (in a lucid dream).
For some reason I dont get the vibrating feeling you guys have mentioned. I just feel extremely heavy and can’t move. Its like im sewed to my mattress. So don’t wait to suddenly be in another world. Imagine getting out of bed, and you will be thrown into that world of “imagination” firsthand.
I’m unsure of how little we can feel our body; is it none or just barely? One of the times this happened i got out of bed (a dream) and walked around my room. But for some reason I could open my right eye, it was like i had sleep paralysis (for my eye) in a dream! When i actually woke up, i realized i as sleeping with my head laying on its side on the pillow with my hand pressed up against the back. I was putting a lot of pressure on my right eye. Does my dream say i could feel this pressure, or was it a random coincidence?

Yeah, I thnk once you start mastering getting into your dream, the next thing is to disconnect your mind from your physical body, there’s been so many times that the feelings from my physical body made it’s way into my dreams, (laying on my stomach, and I could only crawl, trying to walk but feeling like my legs were paraylized…) it’s weird, but I guess because of our awareness, we seem to be aware of our sleeping body as well. All it takes is practice to get past that I guess…

The one night i had lucid dreams (not really lucid, they were like half lucid) was through WILD / SP / WBTB. I was vibrating, my heart started rushing, I felt warm, then cool, and eventually it felt like i was being sucked into a vacuum or launched at incredible velocity into my dream. Point is, it works.
It is scary at first but if you can concentrate on not waking up (or dreaming or NOT concentrating…) the insane feelings go away and you are in a dream. I did it twice in one night.

I experienced SP this morning. 'twas the first time I had although I’ve read up on it, along with several other sleep phenomena. Sadly the feeling that I couldn’t breathe startled me enough that I came out of the trance that I was currently in.

I knew that I was still breathing but having never experienced it firsthand before I let my instincts get the best of me and started focusing my attention on breathing.

Maybe next time I’ll be more level-headed about the experience.

Don’t worry about it, even people that have experienced it many times have trouble dealing with it. After all, the feeling of not breathing can be pretty freaky. You’ll do better next time!

Actually, for a first SP, if you didn’t think “omg, I can’t move!” and try to force yourself to move, that’s a great start :content:

I kinda knew what I was getting into as I’ve lurked on these forums for a few years now. I didn’t even try to move. I felt that wave of energy go through me and I knew what was going on but still, not FEELING my breathing was pretty unnerving.

I’ll get it though. Someone IRL told me that once I’m in SP to focus on a single object very clearly then tell myself “awaken”. I should be in a dream then if I focused enough. If not, I’d wake up. He also said to come out of SP, just swallow.

hi all, I’m new to this… I have a question.

Last night when I tried WILDing, after a few minutes my body (not including my head) feels very heavy, especially my chest. I almost can’t breathe. Was that a SP? Or that was a step to SP?

It’s hard to tell, maybe the breathing part indicates you were in SP, but they heavy muscles can sometimes simply just be because you are relaxed and haven’t moved them for awhile. I’m thinking you may have been close to it rather than in SP. Then again, we all experience SP differently, some more intense than others so who knows… but judging by the common experiences everyone has, it sounds more like you were close to SP rather than in it.

I got it again this morning. Only it was different this time. Increased heart rate, felt like energy was flowing all through me. It became increasingly hard to keep my eyes closed and my breathing became erratic.

I seem to have figured out how to induce it though which involves (for me at least) a relaxation exercise for each part of my body. Once that’s done, I’ll stay that way for a few minutes, 5 to 10 getting to a point where my eyes don’t even move. Finally, I visualize my hands, then my room. I then visualize that I walk over to my set of keyboards and start playing a song that I wrote. I never stop looking at my hands while I’m playing and the sensation kicks in.

This is only the 2nd time I’ve gotten SP and I haven’t been able to get to the second attention yet but I believe I’m making progress.

Later,
Dave

is anyone good at WILD from right when they lay down to bed ?

i wilded a lot (mainly re-entry ) in the morning,

but when i tried to get SP at the start of night, i spent forever on my back, i slept and i didn’t sleep

i found breathing deep then holding the breath at the exhale tricked my body into not yelling at me to ROLL OVER
so i spent forever on my back sleeping but never dreaming or SP
then i rolled over onto my side and i thought i was awake and was very very tried and sat by my stairs meditating for about 10 seconds,
but that was a dream or OBE !

So far, all my WILDS have been done at going to bed (i get up real early, so getting up in 4-5 hours using the WBTB technique wouldn’t work for me since I have to get up by then)… I go to sleep round 1130. Last night was my longest one, bout 10 minutes… at first they were very short, some of them were even pitch black, but last night I actually had a full on room that I could explore. It took me bout two months to really get it, but now it seems more frequent, and FAST, I mean the past two times I did it once on Monday, and one more last night, I went into WILD almost 10 minutes after getting into bed.

Is it possible to WILD without an SP? Cause I really want an LD, but the SP stuff sounds really freaky  . Do all the other techniques have SP’s too?

When I try to WILD, after a while I feel numb all over my body, I cannot feel a thing! Sometimes it’s like my eyes shake violently, in bursts, and I get a warm feeling running through my body. My heartrate goes up, and I breath more. I can move if I want to though, and I usually do because I start to itch (really annoying). Is this SP? I didn’t see any images or hear sounds or anything…

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about the experience I had last night. I’m not sure if it was SP related or if it was just something else :meh:

I was trying to get into SP and I was focuscing on my breathing and counting. I did this a few times, the first few nothing much happened, I could feel my body getting numb and I got a tingling feeling in my feet as well as some leg twitching, but I didn’t get any shaking or vibrations that people usually report. However, on my last try, I’d had my eyes closed for a very short amount of time, I could see what I can best describe as a tunnel of light, which started going faster and faster through my mind. I could feel my heart getting faster too, and suddenly my eyes began blinking (although still closed) and twitching really quickly and uncontrolably. I let it continue for a while, it didn’t get any slower and it was happening loads, eventually I opened my eyes and then fell asleep notmally. After opening my eyes, I felt very strange - like I should’ve been asleep and also really heavy.

All of a sudden, my entire body started shaking like crazy. Serious, violent shaking. I was terrified by this (it definitely wasn’t pleasant) and to top that off, I started hearing these horrible high-pitched buzzing noises in my ear and also this really loud, staccato “shh-shh-shh-shh-shh” sound that kept blaring at me, getting faster and faster. My heart felt like it was going about a mile a second. I felt as if I was having a seizure, my entire body just wouldn’t stop shaking. Suddenly my body did this weird little jerk and I was awake

well, congratulations my friend, you almost had an O.B.E.
when i first heard of people using WSP for lucid dreams, i was kind of shocked that not many people knew this was also for O.B.E.'s, but by also keeping your mind in limbo, this induces strange buzzing noises, and shakes.
this is only for begginner O.B.E’ers though, normally it becomes so feint after a while, that you can hardly sense it.
this violent shaking is your body trying to stay in normal reality, and your mind is drifting away, thats the best i can explain it.
once this is happening, its important to keep calm, and keep relaxing, the more you figh it, the more violent it will be.
after you stop fighting it, and completely relax yourself, youll stop hearing the buzzing noises, and be completely free.
now, to make sure yoouve released your astral body from your physical one, there are a few ways to tell, without moving your body.
1:the bottle cap method.
this is my favoite, becouse its an easy way to completely remove yourself from you physical form.
just imaging a hightened gravity underneath you bed, and start sinking beneath it, then shift this false gavity, to where you turn, like a medicine bottle cap.

another way is to imagine a ball of pure gravity above you, and feel your body moving torwards it.
this only some times works for me, but see if it works for you.

there are a few more methods, but i forgot them
try some different ways to see what works best, and even better, you can open your eyes during trying to get an O.B.E.
so while your doing this, you can open your eyes, and mouth, and it wont affect the WSP at all
it really helps to see things while in an O.B.E., anyways i used to have a topic about this, i had an old account from a long time ago, but for some reason i couldnt log in
anyways, if you feel this shaking, just keep calm, and you’ll be on your way to an O.B.E.
(P.S., that jerk you talked about, might have been you going into the O.B.E…unless you got up and it was reality  )

ok, just replying becouse i forgot this, normally people have trouble with thier eyes during trying a WILD, sounds like you got pretty close, but heres a trick to keep your eyes 100% closed for about 1-2 hours,
1:close eyes
2:shut eyelids kind of hard, but not too hard
3:roll eyes around in wide circles in one direction 3-4 times
4:roll eyes in wide circles in the opposite direction 3-4 times
5:keep eyes closed, but relieve pressure, just like you would normally have your eyes closed.
it may hurt a bit at first, but after 3-4 days with practice, you should have complete control over your eyes.
just a tip

last night, i did some progressive relaxation techniques and then listened to a soothing audio track after doing WBTB. during the soothing music i find myself beginning to spin around and i feel like my eyes are not staring off into the black distance but rather focusing close to me (if that makes sense). suddenly my breathing increases though i realize its just the effect of going into SP, but at this point im not sure if i should let my breathing remain (or appear to remain) rapid and shallow, or try to calm it down and keep it controlled. i also noticed when the spinning and feeling of closeness went away that my body had tensed up a bit.

I tend to have sleep paralysis at least a couple of times a week. I know that by ignoring the terror that can sometimes come along with it, you can enter a lucid dream. The thing is… whenever I actually manage to start dreaming from SP I get too excited which always wakes me up. Is there some way that I can control it? I couldn’t tell you how many times I’m lying there paralyzed entering the dream world, and just wake up from the excitement. It’s very frustrating. It’s been far too long since I’ve had a real LD. None of the methods seem to work for me anymore.

Oh, and a side note, I just joined the site again… I’ve been a long time dreamer, and even used to have an account here years ago. :content:

Hmmm.

Dont worry, SP can be sometimes scary, but it cant do any harm to you. All you get is a bunch of weirdo images, sounds and feelings, and it lasts for only like 1-5 minutes depending on the person.

And for getting too excited, I would do a bit of meditation before getting into SP and just be calm when entering SP.
I know its really exciting and you get all these thoughts rushing through your head which causes you to wake up but just be relaxed and calm and tell yourself that “I will stay calm until I get into my dream world” and once you learn to do that, you’ll be in an awesome dream and just perform an RC to check if you are dreaming or not and then your free to do what ever you like.

Good Luck

Oh and Welcome Back to LD4All. Why did you spend all those years just hiding away?
