Oops, totally forgot about that. Thought it would just be for next wg or something.
Have my summer holidays now and am back from abroad so deadlines aren't a problem, but I understand. ^^

I'll be so daring to state that VG might start on 8th of August. Or earlier. Or later. Just keep that date in mind for now.
If any other GM steps up and wants to start earlier, that would be out of my control of course tounge1

Mr. Torturer

Mr. Torturer was only mentioned once in WG1.
He was the one that took idlers off the village.

Was Mr. Torturer ever used again by a GM?

I think so, yes, or at least by you yourself. I remember sprites that mention him, look around WG 25 or 26 maybe.

Well the reason is that those would be NPCs, which are not allowed now. Of course the GM can still do whatever he wants in the RP, but obviously he should act as a role model, shouldn't he? wink5
I think it /would/ be a bit weird anyways if he decides there to be additional characters which are not affected by the curse. Unless you do the RP a bit differently, maybe like in the movie Red Riding Hood (not sure if you've seen that). But if you project it (the movie) onto WG, then the mayor was a kind of inquisitor who came to redeem the village and he also brought some henchmen, who were obviously not affected by the curse either. This would be a nice way to fit it into a plot that makes sense I guess.

Those were not just NPCs, those were public characters.

Public Characters

Public Characters are roles assumed to exist even if no one RPs them. They were the Innkeeper, the Undertaker, the Gatekeeper, and the Torturer.

The Innkeeper was assumed to exist because everyone goes to the Inn and if no one RPs the Innkeeper, the story would make no sense. So before a player claims that role, the Innkeeper was a public character (that a GM could kill ).

The other three roles existed as public characters for the same reason. These were roles that players could take, but still existed if no one took them initially. If someone claimed them and was killed, then the roles become unfilled, and the Inn starts to become messy, and the corpses get piled up in the town square.

* * *

LRRH posts this kind of things because he always thought that the village was meant to be a persistent and shared creation, and was doing what was necessary to make that happen. The point was that if you have gone for sometime, when you return to the game, you can still see what you added for the village. If this was what had been happening, by now there should be a shared understanding of what the village is like that can be easily (and impressively) shown to any new player so that they could add their creation to the village.

LRRH thought that the other players wanted this to happen and was doing extra to make this happen. But it seems there is no reason to do it because the people either didn't see what could have accumulated over time, or that it wasn't what they want ever.

So now LRRH comes to a decision point. Should he,

a) Keep doing it, hoping that in another 5 years people would understand what he means now and realize that it is what they couldn't imagine but wish to have.

b) Find other like-minded players to do it together because there is too much work for one person, and that if the original person can't continue, the group can still continue.

c) Don't do it.

I understand what you mean, LRRH. The Innkeeper being a "public character" (sorry, never heard it called that before, but it makes sense), I've seen as in the last wolfgame. I think the Undertaker, the Gatekeeper, and the Torturer were all before my time. I think the reason that the Innkeeper was allowed is because the GM knew that they would be able to kill the public character on day 0. I think what you meant was that they weren't really characters, more existed in spirit as some unwritten rule. Like Bayo said, I think it's up to the GM if they want to allow the use of such "public characters" or not. Like there was one game where Bayo invited Bruno as a "Tourist" so that he could be the servant of the Mayor. I like the idea of the Tourist and think it should be used more. I feel that it would make more sense than Public characters, since Tourists don't need to be killed to avoid confusion.
