| In waking life |

So once I become lucid (only twice) I try to become more aware by thinking of my waking life and how I'm sleeping in bed and just actually dreaming, as well as reality checks of course. The first time it enhanced my lucidity. But the last time I became lucid I had a few second conversation with a dream character, then tried to increase lucidity by becoming more awear through thinking of my waking life. But as soon as I did this the second time I just woke up in bed ( no false awakenings). So I was wondering if thinking of the waking life while lucid could actually be detrimental to the lucid dream? Any thoughts/advice? Thanks.

From my experience it shouldn't. One of the best lucid dreams was when I was thinking about waking life. I was flying in my street, few meters from the ground and I was simultaneously comparing waking world with dream world, this somehow made the connection with the dream even stronger and dream was from FA.
I don't know, I mention a few times how profounding this can be... To me it was fascinating, it was like existing in 2 similar yet completely different worlds!

That's what it was like the first time, the dream became amazingly vivid and great. But when I tried it during another lucid dream I just woke up. Must have gotten to excited or something.

Could be, oh and I forgot to mention now you reminded how much vivid and life like dream was. It was one of the most amazing dreams. Like I said, fascinating how I could think about both worlds simultaneously...

Absolutely! But I would suggest to stabilize the dream first, don't rush on your goals, it good to have them, but it's good to stabilize the dream as first thing you do... And to keep a dream to helped often reality checking...
Good luck though!

Thanks! So by doing more reality checks and rubbing my hands together while lucid I should be able to further stabilize the dream?

Yeah, at least I do this and it helps me, I can't say that it will work for you 100% but you can always try it. In theory any "contact" with the dream should stabilize it: rubbing hands, shouting, RC'ing, spinning...

I think the only problem about thinking about your waking life is if you focus too much on your body in bed. This can lead you to shift your awareness from your dream body to your physical body, and this helps you lost grasp of the dream world.

Why would you even focus on your body? It's asleep, paralyzed and that's it...

Hahah, when you put it that way... I know what you mean but like mattias said, sometimes your awareness can shift...
But feel free to experiment...
