This is a lyric from my favorite Nine Inch Nails song. Maybe even my favorite song ever. I don’t really know. This is from the song ‘The Great Below’. If you havn’t heard this song, you should, it is a great one. I will write what the general meaning and what the meanings is to me after I write the lyric.
staring at the sea
will she come?
is there hope for me
after all is said and done
anything at any price
all of this for you
all the spoils of a wasted life
all of this for you
all the world has closed her eyes
tired faith all worn and thin
for all we could have done
and all that could have been
ocean pulls me close
and whispers in my ear
the destiny I’ve chose
all becoming clear
the currents have their say
the time is drawing near
washes me away
makes me disappear
I descend from grace
in arms of undertow
I will take my place
in the great below
I can still feel you
even so far away
This song is about what Trent Reznor thinks about death. More specificly suicide. Many think it is just him making death seem not so bad. But I dissagree. It isn’t about the feeling of death. It is about how much was wasted on one person he loved and it all didn’t matter because he didn’t have her. I also think that possibly the girl that he loved might have drowned at where he talked about ‘I descend from grace’. I think this because of the first line ‘Staring at the sea. Will she come?’ Just thought I would share what to me is one of the best lyrics I have ever heard or known.
