Introduction

reallybiggrin Hiya everybody! I am Scipio Xaos and I'll be your Task Master for the Lucidity Challenge 38. reallybiggrin The signups have finally arrived and I hope everyone is ready, but first, a little history..

The Lucidity challenge began over six years ago and has changed quite a bit from it's first iteration. It still remains, though, one of the best ways for lucid dreamers to push themselves and their peers towards accomplishing their goals. While competition is a great flame to fuel the fire of any LDer, there is also a feeling of working together that builds as competitors aim for the stars.

Now to the rules. I've changed a bit, but that was mostly formatting as well as simplifying some sections. Any changes from the last LC are in red. Changes during the LC are in orange.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

LD Points

You get these just for having an LD! You do not have to complete a task to get these, so post any and every lucid experience!

Points awarded for each dream:
  • You wonder if you're dreaming or you have a false lucid dream (FLD). + 5pts
  • Short LD: You have whatever you would consider to be short according to typical LD's you've had in the past. + 20pts
  • Medium LD: You have what you would consider a medium length LD. This should be the average length of most of your dreams up to this point. + 30pts
  • Long LD: You have what you would consider a long LD. + 40pts
  • Longest Dream: You break your personal record for longest LD (see details for new dreamers below). + 50pts

Everybody is to provide an average length on signup (unless you have never had an LD before), and point calculating will be done accordingly.

For those who have never had a lucid dream before, anything less than 1 minute will count short; 1-5 minutes medium; 5+ minutes will be considered long. You will not be eligible for "longest LD" points until after your first long LD.

A dream is considered a single one until you either get out of bed or record your dreams somehow (this includes notes made between dreams). DEILDs / chaining will be considered one dream unless you record notes in between. (You will not receive the chain bonus of + 10 if you break your chain in such a manner.)

If you have your first lucid dream while the Challenge is running you will get +75 points!

If you become lucid through a technique you never succeeded with before, I will also award +50 bonus points to you. If you're about to try a new technique, or are simply new to lucid dreaming and want to find out which technique suits you best, this is your chance. However, these extra points are not awarded for your first ever lucid dream. (Please be clear about this when you report your dream, because I don't want an extra entry in the signup form for each technique succeeded with so far.)

As you can see, this scoring system is very subjective. This is because different people have different average lengths for lucid dreams. What one person may consider short (5 minutes) may be someone else's medium, and so on. This is so people can work on improving their own personal bests. It encourages the more advanced LD'ers to work hard too. To help you get a definite idea of what your usual duration is, you must post your average (or medium) LD time when you sign up.

Chaining and regaining lucidity: Every time you chain or get back your lucidity from having lost it, you are awarded 10 points. However, the new LD is counted as a continuation of the previous one; so, for example, you can have a medium LD, then chain and raise the LD score to that of a long one.

Task Points

These are the points you are awarded for attempting, and completing, the various tasks. You do not have to be lucid to complete a task, but you will earn the most points while lucid. Each task will have different ways of rewarding points, and they will be explained as each task is posted.

You will earn points for completing the tasks as they are set, but you might earn more points if you do it in your personal style or as part of achieving one of your own goals. At the end of each task I will award a bonus of 20 creativity points to the person who I feel accomplished the current task(s) in the most unique manner.

Points are awarded each time you complete a task regardless of whether or not you have completed it before. Some tasks may be designated to have a lower point value upon repetition. You can only earn points for completing a part of a task ONCE per dream. This means that if you were to complete the same part more than once you would only earn the point value once.

For each task, the following bonuses can be awarded:
  • +30 lucid points (for any task accomplished while lucid; this is separate from LD points)
  • +20 combo points (for completing two previously untried tasks in the same dream; if you already collected points for a task it is no longer eligible for the combo points)
  • +20 early points (for completing the last task active when you go to sleep)

Quest Points

The monthly Quest counts as a task, and awards 75 points for completion.

Personal Goal/Task

When you sign up, you may also give your personal task(s). That is, a task that is one of your goals for LDing. I will award up to 200 points in total per person for completing all your tasks.

Completion of a personal task awards +50 points.

Be careful, average LD lengths cannot be changed while the challenge runs. Personal Goals can only be changed after the completion of the goal.

The lucid/combo/early bonuses aren't awarded for completing your personal tasks.

Deadlines and Calculation

Challenges will last 7 days each. I may announce extensions at any time based on extenuating circumstances. If I haven’t posted the new challenge after 7 days, consider the task extended until 1 night after the next task is posted.

If you have any questions about deadlines, please PM me.

For posting dream info to gain points:
Please include the following information in your posts:

  • The number of LDs you had and the length of each one (please specify short, medium, or long; otherwise, I will make my own judgment based off of the length of the dream and your average LD time.)
  • Any task completed and relevant task information (e.g., what task completed and if you were lucid), but not the whole dream yet.
  • Anything else that is relevant for points, such as completion of personal goal, completion of current quest, chaining, and anything else.
  • Now, please feel free to post your whole dream or a link to your dream journal; however, it is not mandatory as long as you supplied the above information.

Note: If you do not post your dream journal or a link to your dream journal I will be unable to award certain bonuses such as combo or creativity. Also, you may have accomplished additional tasks within your dream that you were not aware of. I will award points for those that I find whilst reading your entry.

I believe that it is the responsibility of the Task Master to read the DJ entries of the contestants, but it is equally the responsibility of the contestants to supply DJ entries. I will not go and look through everyone's DJ for dreams eligible, but I will read all dream entries posted in this thread or linked in this thread.

Don't worry about the point calculations; I will be calculating all the scores. (It is required, given the possibility of bonus points.)

If you feel I made an error in points, please PM me immediately and I will either explain or correct. We are here to have fun, so if you and I disagree on how many points you have earned, please do not make a scene. If you don't like how I award points, then win the LC so you can make up your own rules!

As per tradition, the Challenge will be open to up to 20 participants with a minimum of 10. When the minimum amount is reached, the first task will be posted on the following Sunday.

I'll allow signups after the first task is posted, but not if this means we reach more than 20 participants.

#16: Task 1: Sight Author: Cornelia Xaos PostPosted: Mon 19 Aug, 2013
    ----
Okay everybody. We have our 12 starting contestants so here is our first task:

Task 1: Sight
We have sight all the time in our dreams, but usually we use it in a menial manner.. so to speak. This week's task will be to see something, but not like normal. You have to push this sense to the limit to earn points.

I want amazing wonderments of sight. I want fantastical images of awe. I want descriptions of complex intricacies that leave you lost. I want you to experience the shock of a wonder of your own world. Go forth and find it.

  1. See something Grand + 20
  2. See something Inspiring + 20
  3. See something in Vivid Detail +15

Obviously, your own interpretations of "grand" and "inspiring" will differ from mine. Therefore, in order to earn points for this task you have to describe what you saw in your dream. Be sure to do so in detail, though.

Bonus Task
During each task I will have one.. somewhat random.. bonus task. Each bonus will be worth 10 points and is eligible for lucid and combo points. You can only accomplish the bonus, however, during the week that it is given. This weeks bonus...

  • Lay an egg!

Just lay an egg and let me know what happens!

This task will run for one week until approximately 6 PM EST, Sunday, August 25, 2013. Good luck!

Honestly there's just no way i can determine an average length.. The best I can do is make a note on what I would consider a longer, or shorter dream. I don't know what you mean by defaults, but i really don't know what else to do.

It's difficult to determine, because essentially any night that any form of lucidity is involved, it is technically all night long. Though a vast majority of the time it is a low level lucidity, I just simply cannot determine an average length. It's hit or miss with me, and that really depends on how much sleep i get that night.

If you have any suggestions, I'll go with it.. I'm a bit stuck on this one aswell.

To make it simple, i suppose I could just put 1 hour, since that may actually be the accumulative amount of time i spend actually interfering with my dreams.

Well it's your choice, Lumessence, when it comes to what you consider average. One hour is fine.. but you'll have the longest "average" compared to anyone else, and for that I congratulate you. tounge2

The "defaults" are for those who don't put down an average LD length or those who haven't had an LD yet. catt, for example, will have the following LD lengths:
    < 1 minute == short
    1 -> 5 minutes == medium
    > 5 minutes == long

These are the quote-unquote default times for the challenge. If you believe that your average LD length is an hour long, we'll go with that. smile

EDIT: Oh, and welcome Yev!

Hmm... I'd rather not be overly exclusive.. Inparticular, I'd be using it as a variable for personal relativity, rather than definitive.. I'm changing it to 5 mins, to avoid the raising of eyebrows, or unsettling outlook.

And god, I am sounding like a nerd.. confused
That should do it! sorry for the drama. Still learning wink

Also, FA hell.

Not really sure about what you would consider accomplishing in this, but there it is.
Though I'm not sure what could be more vivid than an FA.

Unfortunately, this is quite the opposite of LD.

So, I'm a little unclear on how the scoring will work for my dreams last night. I noticed that a brief LD is no longer part of the scoring system, so I assume that they count as a short LD now. Also, I had an amazing amount of control in my LD last night, which is unusual for me. Hopefully it will become the norm smile .

I had one brief (or short if I'm correct on how the scoring works) LD. Additionally, I had another brief LD, lost my lucidity for a little while, and then regained it in the same dream and had a short LD at that point. When I managed to regain my lucidity, I was in the middle of being chased by someone. Realizing I was lucid, I knew I needed to get to work on the LC, so I decided since I was outside, I would just be in a grassy field with everything else in the dream removed. To my shock and amazement, I actually ended up in an extremely vivid grass of field, being able to see many of the different blades of grass blowing in the wind. I don't know if that counts for the third part of the task or not, but the field of grass was very vivid. In that field I managed to lay an egg, which I was surprised was so easy, but failed at my overarching plan to score loads of combo points. I cracked the egg open, attempting to see an entirely different universe contained within the egg, but all there was in it was a mushy green lump, which looked like the color of an avocado . As my plan to see something grand inside the egg failed, I attempted to look up at the sky, but awoke before I saw anything.

The way in which I think this adds up is in the spoiler below. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Proving once again that I can complete goals other people set for me but can't complete my own personal goals, I began this LC with my longest LD to date. Here's a LD that feels like it barely edged out the one in which I was you in terms of its length. It completes Part 3 of the Task, completes the Bonus Task, and then finishes Quest 22, "Resize Yourself", for this month's Quest after I screwed it up last time (although I still didn't get as small as I would have liked). If you define "grand" as "opulent" or "rich", then I also completed Part 1, as my egg was inadvertently golden. I don't think that's what you meant, though. tounge2

If i need to give the details that were too explicit for that post, either for Part 3's points or to prove it was actually my longest despite having less words than my previous longest, I'll do so via PM; I'd rather not type it publicly. I think the gist is clear from the journal entry, though.

Lumessence, it's your decision as to what you consider your "average" LD length to be. The system is entirely subjective when it comes to that point. If you think you had what you considered to be a short LD, I'll believe you. If you believe you had a medium one, I'll believe you.. If you think you had a long one, I'll believe you.. The time is only there so that when I read your DJ entry, I could confirm it.. but considering you don't even have to submit a DJ entry there's really no way.. It's really an honor based system. tounge2

HeadInTheClouds: Your calculations are correct. I removed the "brief" LD length as I considered it cutting hairs. Short, medium, or long. Far simpler in my opinion. I do need to know, though, if you consider your second short LD in which you regained lucidity a "short" LD. You may have had it broken into two parts, but if the sum of those parts is what you would consider a medium LD I'd accept it as so.

Thorn: Once again you prove to me that competition is the right motivation for improving LD length, quality, and quantity. tounge2 Really wish I was participating right now. I could use a boost. But I digress. Yea, that's not how I was using the word "grand", but I left it open to y'all's interpretation of the word. It was a detail that would usually go unnoticed so I'll accept it since the goal of this task is to improve the quality of visual details within one's dreams.

*Scipio winks at everyone. wink5

Alright, so, according to the average LD time I submitted, last night I had a long lucid dream. However, I think that the time i put in (less than 1 min.) is tooo short. At the time that I posted it, I wasn't really thinking carefully about my average time. It really should be around 3 minutes. I am afraid that because of my under exaggerated time i will always be getting a higher score than i should. I know the rules say "Be careful, average LD lengths cannot be changed while the challenge runs. ", but I just want to be fair to everyone else, and I would really appreciate it if I could change my average LD time to 3 minutes.

If everyone else doesn't have a problem with increasing your time (which would make it more difficult for you to score points) I don't have a problem with it. That rule (and others like it) are designed specifically to avoid this kind of situation, but accidents happen. I'll allow the change. If anyone has any problems with that please PM me with your reason why it shouldn't be allowed and I will consider your input.

Also, pretty much the same has been occurring with Lumessence. I'm waiting to hear from her what she has to say about my final post. If anyone else made a mistake NOW is the time to come forth. I'll only be considering further changes up until I'm certain of Lumessence's final decision on her time. At that point I'll make a post stating that no more changes will be considered.

3 Dreams.

3 ND
1 section of short LD in one of the three.

Though I had an opportunity for both "grand" (Fleet battle), and "inspiring" (I want to play Kinetic Void now and make my own ships) I didn't have the discipline to keep writing.. (KV.. Wanna play, and I get tired of typing.) There is a lack of evidence/detail for the grand part, but I still consider The Master Fleet inspiring to myself, in that sense... I guess.. If that's what you mean by inspiring.

If that's the case, then to my understanding,
1 short LD
1 Task of inspiring.
If not, one short LD.

Last night I had an LD and a ND both in which I completed tasks (I think).
here

The LD was my longest one ever (around 8 minutes).
I saw something grand, completing that task.

In the ND I completed the seeing something inspiring task.
If you count being inspired to bake a pizza inspiring.

I had 1 (very) short LD:

I was in an old school when I suddenly thought that something wasn't right and
did a RC(Counting my fingers, same as always). I pushed someone away, and
lost my lucidity directly after that.
Also I had just too much ND's after that so I can't recall more meh

So that's 20 points for me, right? smile

I had a relatively pretty long LD, though it wasn't very vivid. I saw a city which had an enormous skyscraper made of an odd clear glass. I would definitely call it grand for sure. Not a lot of other things happened, though. Just a lot of exploring. The DC's weren't feeling very talkative.

I did wake up and chain back in 3 times as well.

I had a short LD last night. I completed the current LD4all quest. Specifically, I finished the LD4all Quest #6 Unfold Your Wings and Fly task by flying, which of course meets the requirements of the current LD4all quest. I also saw something inspiring, although it is hard to describe accurately. I traveled through a mirror, and when I got to the other side there was a wall in front of me that was a similar color to the background here on LD4all. There were stars on it, but they were supposed to be real stars and they moved around and twinkled. That's probably the best that I can describe it.

For receiving points for completing the LD4all quest, do I have to post in the quest forum, or is this post sufficient?

I'm not sure if I'm expected to keep the same definition of "grand" from one LD to the next, but I had a short LD here in which I saw my DCs spontaneously enact a coordinated dance number without any prior planning from me. #48: Task 2: Sound Author: Cornelia Xaos PostPosted: Mon 26 Aug, 2013
    ----
Well since the cat is out of the bag for those who frequent IRC I suppose I'll let everyone in on more of the finer points of the details.

I was hoping to make this challenge a goal to improve the "quality" of ones LDs over the "quantity" thereof. I recall having very few out of my recorded LDs in which the detail was superb and the images lasting. There are a few, yes, and sure it all feels lifelike, but the detail of it all is lacking.. or at least the recalled detail.

So, I've put together a series of tasks to try to alleviate that problem. Hopefully. But before you read the second task I'd advise you read the following:
Click here to see the hidden message (It might contain spoilers)

So.. a heavy emphasis in all of the following tasks will be on the description you give to me of the event. The aim of this challenge is not to recall what happened in your LDs, but to recall HOW it happened. So, without further ado, here's task two.

Task 2: Sound
Countless numbers of my DJ entries feature a line like the following:
Scipio's DJ Entry This Morning wrote:
As the draconic man died he told me (don't recall the exact wording) that now I would have to suffer his curse.

"Don't recall the exact wording." Other sounds, among dialogue, are also equally blurred. We recall "hearing birds chirping" but after awaking we can't recall how that chirp sounded.

This week's task will charge you with listening to the world around you. You will need to report on the quality, intensity, and fidelity of a sound or sounds.

  1. Hear a Conversation or Dialogue + 15
  2. Hear some Music or Singing + 20
  3. Listen to the Silence + 40

In order to gain points for this task you have to report about the sound and not just that you heard it. For conversation I'm looking for exact wordings, and other details like tone of voice. For music, while song lyrics can be reported, details about the instrumental such as its tempo can be reported as well as if it sounded familiar.

For the last, part, however, you will most likely have to be lucid. You will need to find a quiet place to stop and listen, and report the various sounds you heard. For all the task parts, however, detail is key so please include as much detail as you can.

Bonus Task
Great job on the previous bonus! More people completed it than I thought would. tounge2 This week's bonus...

  • Find the recipe for a pizza sandwich!

Find any kind of recipe your mind comes up with (for a "pizza sandwich"). In order to earn bonus points for this task more than once the recipe will have to be found differently each time.

This task will run for one week until approximately 6 PM EST, Sunday, September 1, 2013. Good luck!

Scoreboard
First, the creativity points go to... Thorn! for his "Yoshi" method of laying an egg. I thought that it was very clever..

And now, the scores!

LC 38 Scoreboard
  1. Thorn ( 575 )
  2. HeadInTheClouds ( 400 )
  3. LDbc12 (310 )
  4. Lumessence ( 265 )
  5. Rhewin ( 205 )
  6. James_UK2008 (90 )
  7. Letaali (50 )
  8. Ecila6 ( 20 )
  9. Mew151 ( 0 )
  10. argon ( 0 )
  11. catt ( 0 )
  12. muccy ( 0 )
  13. Jessica ( 0 )
  14. Yev ( 0 )

  15. Scipio Xaos ( 25 )

You may have noticed my name at the end of the list. While I will not be competing "officially" nor will I be eligible for creativity points, under the suggestion of a friend I will, in my own words, "get in the LC" for the heck of it. tounge2

Under no circumstance will I be eligible to host the next LC. I'm just curious (and would like the competition boost very much) about participating again. smile If anyone has any problems about this let me know. I'll "remove" myself from the public scoreboard.

Well now. Sound seems to be my most lacking of senses when it comes to recall, so this will be quite a challenge.

And I am actually not quite surprised at my score. Thorn, you may have been intimidated by my length and frequency of LDs, but as I had made mention of before, I do not have the discipline to complete goals and tasks. wink

I have a feeling I am going to fall behind rather quickly.

Also, with the way you explained it Scipio, I actually like what you're doing here. Personally, it's far more effective and beneficial for me than just simply trying to fly, or conjuring a giant candy cane.

This morning's DJ entry starts with a short LD that does not accomplish any tasks, then has an extremely vivid ND that has conversations, music, and singing. I wouldn't recommend going through the awful sleep interruptions I had before these dreams just to get such dreams, as I woke up feeling like I was hit by a train.

Actually, the Task 2 Part 2 is "music OR singing", so since my ND had me sing and then play music, I get credit twice, right? RIGHT?

Also, as Lataali, I noticed that smell is probably my weakest... as it was non-existent in these dreams. I don't recall any smells at all. Sound does not seem to be an issue when i actually pay attention to that when recalling...

I dare say I completed talk 1.

I heard a conversation/dialogue in one of my ND.

I was in a fictional high-school/college. The walls were all oddly painted different colors, with occasional vertical strips of sepia/brown that were supposed to be the unpainted parts. I was sitting on the floor with some random DC girl by one of the unpainted strips. At this point, Michael J. Fox comes up to us with paint and a paintbrush and asks if we'd like to volunteer to finish painting the school. I hesitate, but decide to do it, starting on the strip that I'm sitting by. As soon as I start, the girl that was sitting by me takes the paint and dumps it on me. I get mad and tell the principal, who was Michael J. Fox previously but looks different now, that he "needs to punish her because she keeps doing the same kind of stuff to me." The girl and him are laughing, and he slightly stops laughing, but is having a hard time doing that. In a slightly gleeful voice, he tells the girl that "you're suspended for a week... uh, no for two weeks."

That was the best I could do for specific dialogue, as even IRL I tend to paraphrase what others have said. That should be pretty accurate, but may not be 100% accurate.

On a side note, because these tasks seem to need so much description, I may just have to open a Dream Journal for this LC. Also, are any of these tasks repeatable? It seemed like the bonus task this week is?

OlegEqualzName: Welcome to the LC! As I said in IRC, you're in. I've just been absent so I haven't gotten a chance to add you to the list on the first post. tounge2

Lumessence: Thanks. It always seemed to me that we try to have LDs with great feats and lots of grandeur, but it's all action oriented. I'd like to see a little quality thrown in there with that quality. smile

Nice dream quality on Low profile bounty hunt. One thing though:
Lumessence wrote wrote:

LDbc12: Your dream will count for Task 2 Part III. You listened to the silence. I was looking to see what each of you would fill the silence with and it would seem you filled it with music. smile

Thorn: Nope. Only counts as one. Your question actually made me have to think on that. The way it shall play out is that you can complete each task as many times per dream as you like, but you only get points for the task "per dream". So if you listened to three songs in one dream and two more in another dream you'd only get points for Part II twice. I'll update the rules to include mention of this situation.

HeadInTheClouds: You can continue to post your dreams in the thread if you want. You can also put them in spoiler tags if you feel you have to. That being said ALL tasks are repeatable. All of them. Feel free to do them as many times as you can. tounge2 Pay attention to what I spoke to Thorn about, though.

Letaali: Nice detail. The conversation would have been enough, but it's good that you can recall those minute details. Keep on! smile

Man, the LC is really good for me :D

Another quite long LD. This one I was outside some kind of haunted mansion. It looked like a multi-million dollar mansion and was nice, but the whole building was lit up with an odd greenish-blue light. There was also a pretty massive graveyard. The inside of it looked like a normal hotel, but there was a general feeling of something being off. Oh, and the ghosts and undead that appeared later were a bit of a give away that something was afoot. On a side note, it's awesome making creepeh things like ghosts and giant spiders explode just by pointing at them. There's a possibility I was working for the dream police again, but no clear evidence.

Anywho, task related.

There was a creepy kind of music playing from a hearse that was in the driveway. Very atonal and with instruments I wouldn't be able to pick up. Sounded like a mix of voice, violin and oboe for one of them. Not much of a rhythm to it, but it was clearly music. Also heard some samba music later (see below).

I also listened in on a conversation inside the mansion. The owner, who had apparently invited myself and several others to this mansion. He was wearing a purple trench coat, had curly hair and sunglasses. He was talking to a very hairy butler. He specifically said "Ok, they're all here. This is boring, start everything now." The butler responded with something to the effect of "will we get out on time?" He responded "I will, anyway. Get going." For the record, I made sure he didn't get out when all the craziness with the undead happened

After whatever it is the butler did, the lights went out and the floor was covered with a glowing blue mist. I was by myself and there was a corner leading to a long hallway. Not wanting any jump scares, I stopped and listened. At first it was quiet, though I could make out some unusual music in the background. Then I could make out some scuffling sounds, though the direction wasn't clear. The longer I listened, the more random ambient noises popped up. All of them were basic "haunted house" noises except for what sounded like samba music somewhere else in the house.

I was just made aware that points for tasks stack, I thought it was still just for whatever the highest rating dream was. Sooo... I feel kinda dirty, but my dreams are very sound oriented.

During the last task (sorry, I don't remember the day anymore), I had an ND in which I saw a statue of a fallen hero in his home village. The way it was constructed made it appear with genuine emotion. It was constructed by hand, or so I was told, and you could really see the sorry in the chisel work. It's hard to describe, but it was definitely inspiring. It was during the task, but I realize if the early points no longer qualify.

I did already post this but I suppose I should clarify, I thought that I wouldn't get stacked points. I would certainly call the sight grand http://ld4all.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=704982#704982

Sunday night I had an ND that included me listening to a movie's soundtrack. It was from Sweeney Todd, specifically the song "Epiphany". The singers voice sounded female, though still deep, and it was a little faster than normal. I pointed that out to my wife's DC, who said "it's sort of like when Pocahontas rode the horse." Still not sure what that means.

There was also another dream last night where a trumpet player was playing "Bugler's Holiday". Tonality and rhythm were perfectly normal, though part of the way through it sounded like there was a harmony part playing as well.

Geez.... I feel like I'm cheating right now, especially considering I usually remember dialogue. Feels like a lot of free points :\

More conversation/dialogue here. The first dream (the fragment) had conversation, but I couldn't remember the exact words. The second dream had most of the spoken words remembered.

EDIT: I distinctly heard game music as well, but forgot to mention that here. It was mentioned in the journal entry, though.

I had a LD last night, but I'm not sure as to whether it was short or medium length. It was kind of on the edge of being short or medium, but I think that I will go with medium, as it felt more like a medium LD than a short one.

I used WILD to enter the dream, although I think I used WILD within a dream itself and not from a wakeful state. I got out of my bed and listened to the silence. The only thing that I could hear was a loud horn from a big-rig that kept being blown every few seconds. I attempted to find a pizza sandwich recipe by searching throughout my house, but it was a failed attempt. I then remembered the song part of the task, and sang Take It Easy by The Eagles. I don't know if it counts if we're the ones creating the music, but as for a description, it sounded about as horrid as it does when I sing IRL. The one exception was that it did seem somewhat more on time than I normally sing IRL. I went to the mirror in my bathroom and tried to accomplish my personal task, but every time my hands went in the mirror to pull my clone version out, they came out empty-handed.

I also had a ND earlier in the night where I was also in my bedroom, and for some reason heard a melody playing. It sounded like it was a popular Queen song, possibly Another One Bites the Dust, but when thinking about it after I woke up, the beat wasn't exactly like that song. However, if it wasn't a Queen song, then it was still some song that is famous as the melody and beat were too recognizable to me.

If you're wanting more description from me, let me know. I'm trying as best as I can to describe stuff, which is not by best area of writing. Also, I'm still not sure on the meaning of seeing something grand. I had another ND last night where there was this really awesome throw down between two celebrities. Is seeing something you would consider as amazing or awesome qualify as grand?

Last night I had a short LD lasting about 2 seconds. What happened was that I noticed a dream sign and I was about to RC. But in that exact moment IRL my mom opened my door and came in my room to let the dog out, waking me up. Terrible timing in her part.

In those 2 seconds of lucidity i did not complete any tasks so i really don't feel like typing it up in my DJ tounge2 . But I never actually completed the RC so I'm not sure if that should be considered being lucid. I think I get points for wondering if I'm dreaming, though...

I had an ND last night where Wyvern, Thorn and I were in a mall. For some reason they were discussing how a member Named "shomolousk" (that's the closest I can get based on its sound) was good at painting nails. She had apparently been doing it since she was 5, though I'm not sure why Wyvern or Thorn were aware of this tounge1.

Therr was backgroubd mysic in the mall we were in. It sounded like the elevatot music from Lego Island, assuming anyone actually remembers that game.

This morning I had a long LD here. Probably my most successful dream for the LC.

In addition to completing Task 1.2 and Task 2.3, I also completed my personal task (eating food) and the LD4all quest (#12, here)

Whew!

Edit: Oooops! I almost forgot! The firework things that I saw in the dream inspired me to do that science experiment thing on youtube (link in my DJ).

And also, yesterday, when I had that 2 second LD, I forgot to mention this. Before I became lucid, I heard some music. It was kind of like pop music, but also a little like rock and roll. And it was really fast paced music. (GAH, I remembered one more little detail, but now i forgot it :'( . I should have DJ'ed it!)

I had a long LD here in which I listened to silence and later heard a "dialogue" (by which I mean a monologue with one sentence of a response when I realized that a monologue didn't count).

ND: I was basically in one of those TV specials from the 70's where they try to make Jesus a Hippie. It was nighttime and me and our group was outside of some old car wash. Two DC's were having a conversation about whether we should open the car wash the next day or relax. The one thought it would be fun while the other wanted to have the day off, though he never said why. Jesus (who appeared to be quite distracted by a flower in classic hippie fashion) said "brothers, stop. I hear the night." Of course, his voice was all hippie-ish. Reeeaaaal laid back, surprised he didn't drop a "groovy".

Anyway, listened for whatever he heard but there was nothing other than silence. Normally I hear at least something in most dreams so once I woke up this seemed odd, though I didn't notice during the dream. Eventually a car pulled up, and I recognized (FM) the guy as being a local jerk. A few of the others spoke up, basic stuff like "aw man, it's Steve.... let's ditch him."

A DC and I tricked him into pulling his car into the car wash which kind of ruined the car since we left the hood and windows open. Steve, who didn't know we did it, looked quite upset. I felt sorry for him and comforted him, and even offered to try to jump start the car. When I did though, my car almost exploded into flames >.>. As I put the flames out, music from Jesus Christ Superstar played, though instrumental only.

tl;dr dialogue, music and silence in an ND.

Edit: The sight task is also involved, Steve's car was extremely vivid when wet. I could see the water droplets and the fabric was also cearly moist. Just one of those fun things I noticed.

Letaali: I'll count that as a "lucid moment". wink5

HITC: About the "grand" celebrity brawl, did you step back in awe? (Or have a similar reaction.) If so, I'll accept it as grand.

LDbc12: About your 2 second lucid, if you think it was a lucid tell me. It's up to you to tell me if you felt the "click" and just instinctively RC'd or you weren't sure so you were RCing. tounge2

EDIT: LDbc12, since you completed your personal goal you are free to pick a new one or try to accomplish that one again. Whatever you decide, please let me know.

Last night in a ND I was skating with my boots on an icy road in the middle of a winter night. I heard loud bass coming from a car that was approaching. I jumped into some snow and heard some generic techno as the car passed. No idea what song it was. This is all I recall, so I don't think I'm going to bother writing it in my DJ.

Me and my friends go into a cave and i clearly remeber me reciting the fight club rules but to do with pancakes.

"first rule of pancake club, you do not talk about pancake club"
"second rule, no pancakes for breakfast"
"third rule, if it is your first night here you must flip a pancake"

Made me chuckle.

I also just realized that in the dream from the 28th, I forgot to mention that I distinctly heard the music in the game — I hope it's not too late to get credit for that. tounge2 I wrote it in my dream journal that day but failed to mention it in this topic.

Scipio: I did stare and laugh, so if that counts, then yes. Otherwise, no.

I had a dream last night where Jerry Seinfeld was playing a Tuba looking instrument. It sounded a lot like a saxophone and had a consistent, repeating melody. Every one or two notes he would play a higher pitch note that was also blunted in its timbre. The unique notes were supposed to be him cussing us out and was basically like the bleeps on television when someone cusses. I don't know what I did to make him that mad .

I also saw something inspiring last night, with the 11th doctor regenerating into the 10th doctor, but only for an hour. I was laughing after the Seinfeld dream, but I was pretty ecstatic after this dream. Can't wait for the 50th anniversary episode bounce .

Also, I saw something grand in a dream the night before last night. I was in some kind of flying ship fleet, but I forget what the ships looked like (I remember one or two of them looking like fruit or fruit related packaging). However, we were attacking some army of planes and Star Wars looking ships that were all gathered in the air around a place that looked like the floating city in Star Wars. There were even a couple Millennium Falcons in their fleet. They were spread out everywhere, and it was crazy just how large and powerful of an army these other ships that I can't remember were going up against.

Well, I'm not completely out of it like I had thought. I had a sort of attempt at the sound challenge:

Quote:
I was in my parents' room again and now some Swedish guys were sitting on the bed talking to me. I recalled the LD Challenge after our short conversation and tried to replay what the said in my head. I remembered the accent.

I wouldn't count it as a short Lucid Dream though, I was just lucid enough to remember the challenge. I think I still remembered some of the conversation and got excited about it when I first gained lucidity and started to wake up. I went back to sleep right after though and don't remember anymore.

Also realized there was a part of my dream where I was playing the piano, but I don't remember that part much.

If you were, however, just thinking that you could be dreaming, or just imagining so, and you didn't actually feel that "click - I'm dreaming" moment, then it will only count as a Lucid Moment.

I don't know if FLD can be chained, but I had a FLD/lucid dream (hard to tell which one it was), lost that false/low level lucidity, and then later in the dream had an actual FLD. Overall, I would still consider the first part of the dream to be a FLD or a low level LD.

#94: Task 3: Touch Author: Cornelia Xaos PostPosted: Mon 02 Sep, 2013
    ----
Jessica: Okay. smile

Wyvern: No problem. Don't worry about it. :D

HeadInTheClouds: No I won't count that as chaining as chaining specifically involves Lucidity. I'm only going to count it as one FLD since an FLD is a quality that applies to a dream as a whole, even if your false lucidity had faded. If you were to however have multiple lucid moments per dream (asking yourself if you were dreaming twice, for example) I would have counted that the appropriate number of times (2 in this case).

Thorn: I haven't looked at the stats in a while, but I don't think the dialogue earned everyone as many points as people seem to be thinking they would have.

And here's Task 3!

Task 3: Touch
Moving on down the chain I find that touch sensations fall (at least for me) in third when it comes to dream detail. There are MANY aspects of touch, however, so you will find that there is, equally, many more ways of earning points.

This week you will need to explore the world around you in a way that doesn't involve you eyes. Though you may still report on what you saw, I'm looking for primarily a physical description of the world around you.

  1. (Simply) Touch something + 20
  2. Touch something warm / cold + 30
  3. Touch something with texture + 40
  4. Touch something unusual + 50

  • For each additional detail you report + 5

As with the previous tasks, you must describe the sensations produced by interacting with whatever it is. You don't have to go into EXTREME detail for.. certain things (Wyvern.. Thorn.. ), but I would like you to at least express having felt said details.

Bonus Task
It would seem that the only one to have completed the previous bonus task would be the one who provided the inspiration for it. As fitting as it would be I was hoping more would succeed. Still, here's the third bonus task!

All you have to do is report seeing / hearing / smelling etc. something involving the Secure Contain Protect foundation. If you're unfamiliar with this "organization" please visit the link. If you don't wish to complete the bonus, don't worry. It is only worth 10 points.

This task will run for one week until approximately 6 PM EST, Sunday, September 8, 2013. Good luck!

Scoreboard
Though it was in an NLD the creativity points go to.. muccy! Pancake club sounds delicious.. I mean delightful.. I mean what club? tounge2

Scores! :D

LC 38 Scoreboard
  1. Thorn ( 1340 )
  2. Rhewin ( 970 )
  3. LDbc12 (940 )
  4. HeadInTheClouds ( 635 )
  5. Wyvern ( 405 )
  6. Lumessence ( 300 )
  7. Letaali ( 190 )
  8. James_UK2008 ( 90 )
  9. muccy ( 55 )
  10. Jessica ( 55 )

  14. Yev ( 20 )
  15. argon ( 0 )
  16. catt ( 0 )

Here's an ND that has dialogue and also touches something cool and smooth. I notice that the task says it must be warm or cold, not hot or cool, and also that it must be textured and not smooth, so I guess I need to read more carefully. That said, I wasn't expecting to manage even the standard "(Simply) Touch something" task in an ND, so this is a start. I lucked out and had the touch sensation right before the end of my final dream, so I managed to remember it when I would otherwise forget it.

I was lucid for, maybe, a little over a minute in one of my dreams last night ("Someone else's dream"). Also, earlier in the same dream, there was a short piece of dialog.

Then, I had another dream ("What do you want to talk to that guy for?"), and in that one I heard a proper conversation.

And here.... we...... go.

So, beat my personal task. Last night had an LD that felt around 30-40 minutes.

In that dream I heard dialogue, saw very vivid detail and touched multiple objects. I also touched a zombie's face which was cold, had the texture of an alligator skin purse, and I think it's safe to say it was quite unusual. LIIIIIINK. It also happened to be LD 200 :3

Also from last night, I had a separate dream I was talking to my nephew. He kept demanding that I give him a piece of fried chicken that I was eating, but I told him he already had his. His argument was he's "a growing boy so [he needs] more." Of course, I was holding the chicken so I suppose that counts as touch, but I do recall the texture being very greasy. Must not have been healthy chicken tounge2.

A dream from Sunday night included with me almost violently arguing with a coworker. The quite colorful dialogue included me yelling at him for stealing a customer and him yelling back that the customer was his to take because he saw them first (which he hadn't). I can post more detail if needed, but I dun wanna think about work right now tounge2.

And that's a wrap.

Last i had a lucid dream, but most of it is foggy and unclear since i had terrible recall last night. But I do remember it being pretty long (not the longest), so I'll say it was a long LD.
The only task I remember completing is touching something. It was a carpet on a floor and it felt like, well, how a carpet should, soft with the stringy things and bunched up together.

Two ND's

The first one I had a conversation with a guy who was ver' mentally disabled who kept insisting I got to a strip club. I didn't want to go but he made me. For whatever reason I was wearing these giant glove hands. They looked like leather but I remember them feeling like microfiber cloth when I took them off. There was a lot of loud music blasting in the background. And then I saw Miley Cyrus perform on stage... I went out of my way to avoid seeing that video so it found its way into my dream, and it was in unfortunately vivid detail >.<.... the crowd was not pleased either XD.

The other dream involved Wyvern and I in a hotel room... Er.... lemme try to keep this PG. We had a discussion, of course, mostly just "I love you" tounge2. I definitely saw.... things that I'd consider grand in vivid detail <.< . And, on top of just the basic "touch" points, I felt something smooth, something warm, something quite.... er... firm.... As far as kissing goes I suppose I could add wet to the list. Hair, that is textured I suppose. But uh.. yeah, just let me know if you need more detail than that and I can send a PM >.>

Both were ND's though I did question if I was dreaming before getting distracted with Wyvern

Edit: I did just remember that in that first dream I was getting some kind of cream out of a bottle, and it had an extremely unusual feeling to it. Not quite liquid or solid. No easy way to describe it.

I wrote three dreams worth a few LC points each in this morning's DJ entry. The first dream is a short LD that loses and regains lucidity, but has no tasks done. The second dream has a heavy, smooth figurine forced into my hands that I hold briefly before getting rid of it (as I felt the weight and "knew" that it would tire my arms), as well as plenty of dialogue and seeing details about a product I find on a shelf. The third dream has dialogue and has me touch a plastic Slinky and get painfully pinched by it.

Today's DJ entry was an odd one. I hear some dialogue in the first dream. The second dream is less clear on how it scores: can "listen to the silence" points be earned as a DO in an ND? The silence was definitely noticeable and was setting up for the next thing that happened — having a giant come out of nowhere, which is a "grand" sight according to Google (1. "magnificent and imposing in appearance, size, or style."). The second dream also has dialogue.

These challenges typically last seven weeks, so this one will probably end and have its scores tallied on the week of October 6th, provided that the task master doesn't delay things for real-life issues. The next one will start as soon as the winner of this one is ready to host the next one and can get enough competitors, which usually takes another week or so.

Wyvern: Wow.. Doubled your points on that first one there. tounge2

Thorn: This part is a little more directed at everyone. I probably should be more general (or specific depending on how you look at it ) in giving the tasks as my intentions seem to get masked by people assuming the direct and literal meaning of what I say. That being said warm / cold refers to temperature in general, and texture refers to the general feel of an object (smooth, soft, etc..) I leave unusual up to your own interpretations.

Lumessence: In one of your DJ entries... I would never had known what you were talking about if you hadn't mentioned my name. I have only been reading the DJ entries that have been posted in this thread (cause I'm a "lazy" TM tounge2 ), but when I saw "No Scipio, it was not you this time either." I was confused.. I read back, and, well.. I don't know what to say besides you slipped up in your "Naturally I am not going to say, but it was someone I am not truly familiar with." tounge2 (If I'm connecting your posts right, that is.)

Oh, and could be more specific as to which tasks you are claiming here? I'm having difficulty telling. Specifically which task parts are in which dreams. Sorry for this being so late. sadblauw

Same for this one. I could guess while reading, but I'd like it if you claimed which tasks you think you accomplished. If you would rather defer me to interpreting I'll do my best, but I might not pick up on things you noticed as you had the dream yourself.

Rhewin: Since you completed your personal goal, please select a new one or you can decide to attempt the same one again. Whatever your decision, please post in your next post on here. smile

Thorn: I'll give you points for listening to the silence while DO. Even though IWL if one doesn't have ears one can't hear, in a dream, just cause you don't have a body doesn't mean the senses stop working. Especially Sight and Sound. Senses are still absorbed normally while DO. It's even indicated in the name: Disembodied Observer. While it might be more difficult to touch, taste, or smell while DO, if you somehow managed to get stimuli for those senses I'd accept them (when the task for the currently missing ones goes up, of course).

BrandonBoss: Hiya! Yes, Thorn is right. The competition will be ending in just over four weeks. wink5 However! Since I'm doing a "rolling entry" of sorts, as long as there are less than 20 contestants in the competition, more may join. Therefore, there's four spots left.

NOTE, though, that since you're joining late you would be three weeks behind the other contestants. Also, you won't be eligible for things that have expired (like Task 1 and Task 2 bonus tasks, and the early points for Tasks 1 and 2). You can still, though, join and give it your best shot! Who knows? If you're really lucky you might do better than you expected!

That being said, I'd recommend reading the first post in the thread if you haven't yet to make sure you understand the rules. If you wish to join all you have to do is post a reply in here saying that you want in along with your:

  • Average LD length (time)
  • Personal goal

I won't accept dreams had prior to joining the competition so if you want in you should sign up as quickly as you can! :D

It feels kinda good to be back. Now I hope I won't disappear yet again.

Question: Can I still get points from doing previous tasks? Not the bonus tasks, but just the normal tasks in general.

Awesome!

BrandonBoss/5-7 minutes/Fight with a sword

I am excited! I love competitions! I'll look through the rules and all when posting my dreams tomorrow. Naps count as well, right? I take too many naps to get my sleep schedule back on track.

Only three weeks behind, 31 nights... I'll have to beat some records of mine.

Three dreams with points this morning here.

The first dream was a medium-length LD with dialogue, simple tactile sensations (steering wheel), temperature and texture sensations (from rubbing my hands for stability), and touching something "unusual" (the back of a man's throat). After the lucidity ended, I heard game music.

The second dream had dialogue. It was during a section of the dream that was a bit too raunchy for my DJ, but I am happy to explain in private as usual if necessary. The third dream had dialogue that is stated in the journal entry.

1 short lucid (3 or 4 minutes)
tactile in lucid, when pushing my hand through a wall and tactile in a ND when holding a weird feeling sign.
They are all posted here:

stupid dream character always steals my goals. Tried to do something about it, didn't quite make it to RDC though.

The first dream here is an FLD in which I see something "grand" (the entire environment in the second paragraph) as well as touch something "unusual" (sugar as grass). I taste it as well, but that's not good for anything for two more nights.

The second dream there has many crazy things going on, but "see something crazy" isn't a task, so it's devoid of points.

There was a snippet of dialog in my dream this morning ("The door at the end of the hall"). I think holding onto the metal beams, in the same dream, might count as "touching something", as well.

ND about the show Friends. I was a DO the entire dream.

At first I thought it qualified for the Sight and Sound Tasks, but upon reading the tasks again, I didn't see anything spectucular. What stood out for me for sight was just visualising the words and letters.

For sound, what stood out to me was the end where the characters were sarcastically greeting themselves happy birthday. Upon rereading the task though, it wasn't a conversation, so don't know if it counts. I didn't hear the earlier conversation between Ross, Rachel and Joey in detail.

No Touch at all yet.

Here's a ND I had.

Several things happened that could apply. There was music in it, definitely. Amateurish piano melody, that was very simple. As well as some other thing which involving choir-like singing.

Also, I'm able to recall how sitting on a chair felt like. Does that count as touching stuff? : p

Also there is a chain.
Also... it's kiiiiiinda explicit perhaps? tounge2

Had an ND where I was going into a jungle temple. I walked through water which was cold on my feet, and felt the textures of the rope I was holding on to. I could hear the water when I was alone, and had a conversation with Beaker from the Muppets. I believe his exact words were "meep meep meep." I also saw a giant gold idol I would call grand.

Frustrating... I remember I had two point-intensive dreams this morning but now have no memory... damn work!

The two NDs posted here have some points in them. The first dream simply has some dialogue in it.

The second dream sees something grand (the initial environment), sees something in vivid detail (via an staff that performs x-rays), has dialogue, has music (part of a video game — I recognize and whistle the song), has a focus on silence (as I try to sneak up on something along with another person), touches something (a thin, lightweight tablet for a video game), touches something cool (water), touches something textured (petting a dog), and touches something unusual (the x-ray staff). The only task NOT done is the "see something inspiring" task, which has constantly eluded me; I have yet to be deeply affected IWL by something in a dream during the LC.

#131: Task 4 - Smell Author: Cornelia Xaos PostPosted: Mon 09 Sep, 2013
    ----
OlegEqualzName: Yes. You can still get points for doing the previous tasks, but no Early Points nor the Bonus Task points.

Points for the chair. Those count cause you felt the sensation of touching the chair. wink5

BrandonBoss: smile (Also, the "31 nights" confused me for a bit. tounge2)

Thorn: Don't worry about it. I'll take your word on it. wink5

No Part IV (unusual touch) points for the staff, though. I consider a staff not unusual at all, even if it does give you x-ray vision. Sorry. sadblauw

Jessica: I'll give you "vivid detail" for that dream. Also, if you could actually hear the characters from Friends "greeting themselves sarcastically" you'll get dialogue points for that. I don't know if you did, though, so let me know.

LDbc12: In your post here you mention an LD, what length was it?

Wyvern: o.O A little revenge on Thorn for him using you to get points? XD

Also, slippery texture does count. I use the word texture to refer to the feeling caused by a surface's "texture" so something slippery would have a slippery surface, and thus a slippery texture.. It might sound strange, but you get points for it, so..

Task 4 - Smell
Up next in our endeavor into detail, our foray into focus, is Smell. Why smell instead of taste, you ask? Well the sense of smell greatly influences our sense of taste, therefore it is the natural predecessor to taste, but moving on.

This week you need to engage in outrageous acts of olfactory delight! ... err.. Smell like you've never smelt before. Remember, your goal is not to report that you smelt something, but to report how something smelt.

  1. Smell some food (no points for tasting it yet!) + 30
  2. Smell something good / bad + 40
  3. Smell something new (as in, a new smell) + 50
  4. Smell something that doesn't exist IWL + 60

Remember, detail is key!

Bonus Task
Sadly no one completed last week's bonus.. sadblauw Oh well.. it was sort of out there. This week's bonus comes to you from fellow LD4All member StarryGwee!

  • Shrink yourself (by at least 50%)!

You heard it! Just make yourself smaller!

This task will run for one week until approximately 6 PM EST, Sunday, September 15, 2013. Good luck!

Scoreboard
This week's creativity points go to.. Thorn and Wyvern! They both attempted the same task variation and had some success. Since Wyvern.. "made it farther" I award him 30 points instead of 20. Sorry Thorn..

Oh, look at that. I'd be first if I was just up to date writing out these blasted dreams.

Here's a medium LD from September 2nd.
There was plenty of dialogue and I listened to silence. Vivid dream... Also touched something (the wall), and something with texture (the diamonds). Technically I should be getting early points for the touch tasks... but I really don't care either way.
Takes me a while to write these things, so I'm behind...

I also saw something inspiring; while the dream's math wasn't entirely correct while calculating the discriminant of a 3x3 matrix, it actually did the first step correctly even though I recently realized that I'd forgotten how to do it IWL! I remembered the entire process upon waking up.

Okay, its been awhile. I've been extremely busy, and I don't think the stress is good for my lucid dreaming.

I had a ND the other night where I was touching and holding a key, rubbing my fingers on it. I felt its texture, which was basically like metal, with a slightly rigid place on part of the key.

In another ND from the other night, I was taking my parents inside the TARDIS, and my father said "It is bigger on the inside." He said it like I had already told him that it was bigger on the inside, but in the dream he had never actually had any experience with the Doctor or the TARDIS until that moment.

I had a ND last night where I was in Japan, outside of a crashed TARDIS, and the Doctor was yelling to me something "the Mongolians are coming, we need to get out of here."

I had a FA last night that resulted from an extremely brief moment of lucidity (<5 secs) where I was touching my bed sheets, which can only really be described as feeling like heavy bedsheets.

Finally, I had a medium LD last night. About time. I again tried my personal task and failed. I did touch something unusual by jumping into a mirror. The best I could describe it was like a gelatinous mass that was dark and quite suffocating.

After writing this post, I just realized that I had two Doctor Who related dreams in the last couple days. That's a lot considering I haven't watched it recently, nor do I usually dream about it. Cool siiw

OK, so going back to Monday night:

Two ND's. First one I was selling fresh cookies in front of the student union. For reasons unknown to mankind, I was selling the cookies for Michael Jackson, who was also there. He was telling me that he wanted to sell the cookies for charity. In the background, the song "Man in the Mirror". Michael danced to that, and while I may not be his biggest fan, I gotta say that seeing the king of pop dance was pretty grand. Also felt the cookie which I could see in great detail. Very moist on the inside as well as crumbly. Could smell the cookie when I tore one in half. Possibly the best-smelling cookie I've ever had... now if only I could actually have one (to be clear, while I smelled food, it definitely was a good smell, not just a "food" smell).

Second dream I was at a buffet of some kind (I must have been really hungry that night). However, this one was a bit different. All of the tables were up on a runway of some kind. Down below was a giant, steaming pool of water. I could vividly see a bunch of food that had fallen in the water (bleh), and I could feel the heat rising from down below. A couple of DC's mentioned how much they love going there because of a big selection. For lack of a better term, the place smelled like a buffet. I wouldn't say it was good or bad, but it definitely smelled like food .

Tuesday night:

Two short LD's. I don't remember a lot of details from the first one, not enough for me to be comfortable submitting anything.

As for the second one, however..... Scipio, I'ma just PM you XD

Last night:

First ND I was going with Wyvern to see a musical of some kind. I was driving us there, and when we arrived there was a huge stadium with bright lights that I would say is grand. While in line I held Wyvern. Skin was soft, and could feel threads of shirt. When we got in a DC explained the main actor was sick, so for whatever reason I was supposed to take over. There was generic elevator music playing in the background as well.

Second ND I was at a mall with friends. We were all changing after some kind of sporting even. One guy was showing a girl a special box that glowed in different colors and a velociraptor from Jurassic Park was using the urinal next to me. I totally say those should count as separate things on the sight task XD. I heard lots of dialogue and felt the water in the shower room.

I had a dream here in which I felt callouses on my hands (touching something textured). I also felt arm strain, but I am unsure if that counts as a tactile sensation caused by hanging from a bar; I leave that to the TM. I'm currently more concerned with my waning LD rate and lack of recall — this LC will not slip away from me like the last one did, and I will find a way to fix this issue.

Lumessence: In case you read this before I get a chance to PM you, there's still a few questions I need you to answer about your past dreams you've submitted. They're in my previous post(s), but I'll collect the links and questions and PM you as well.

BradonBoss: eek2

In your post here, the DJ entry mentions something near the beginning about "(Touch smell clothes. )". Given that the preceding paragraph mentions nothing about the quality of the sensations I can, at most, give you points for "Simply Touch". Care to add more details?

Also, I didn't give you any points for smelling the "charcoal fire" as there is no part for simply smelling. I'll need more details on that one if you think you should have earned points for it. sadblauw

The first dream had dialogue as well as a "bad" smell: I realized I was smelling a fire and panicked. I also touched a door and held it in place as it tried to open.

The second dream had dialogue and nothing else.

The third dream was a medium-length LD. It had dialogue, observing something in vivid detail (my body yet again, although this time I didn't do it for the sake of the LC points), and touching something (individual clothing items, which I'm aware only count once).

Task 5 - Taste
You all knew it was coming.. so...

This week treat yourself to various items of delicacy! You're goal will be to sample the world around you in a way that is often not done in dreams. Points will be awarded upon the following criteria:

  1. Taste some food and recall the taste + 40
  2. Taste something "not-food" and recall the taste + 50
  3. Taste something you made + 60
  4. Taste something impossible (like fire) + 70

If you think you've earned points, please post them. Also, if you have questions as to whether or not something will qualify as "not-food" or "impossible" please ask. Generally, something "not-food" is not edible IRL while something "impossible" is something that cannot be tasted IWL like fire. Note that the two groups are mutually exclusive, at least when it comes to this challenge.

Bonus Task
Congrats go to Wyvern who completed the Shrinking bonus twice. This week's bonus (which comes from something squoak said in chat smile ) is...

  • CHHHEEEEEEEEESSSSSEEEEEE!! reallybiggrin reallybiggrin

Welp. I leave the interpretation of that up to each of the contestants. lachtraan

This task will run for one week until approximately 6 PM EST, Sunday, September 22, 2013. Good luck!

I apologize, I havn't had a chance to be online for a while.

In This dream
Scipio Xaos wrote:

  1. (Simply) Touch something + 20
  2. Touch something warm / cold + 30
  3. Touch something with texture + 40
  4. Touch something unusual + 50

  • For each additional detail you report + 5

I believe I completed most of this with the weapon I discovered. Touched it, It had a strange texture, and I'd definitely say it was unusual. When I tried to replace the cell, it burnt my hand.

For whatever else you feel i completed in this dream, i leave up to you. It can be rather difficult to determine what you would consider "additional detail". So if that is not too much trouble, i would like to leave that up to you.

As for this one, I'm not actually sure, looking back at it. I looked back at the rules of the overall challenge, as I believed you could get points for completing previous tasks, but I can't seem to find that... I think this dream was rather vivid, and the dialogue was quite extensive. ("Hearing a conversation"), is what I believe I completed in this dream, if past tasks apply.

Again, i apologize for not being online and not answering your questions. I should however, be able to get back to work on this. I hope this enough to answer your questions..

As for that other part... We were discussing the touch tasks in IRC, and went a little too far. And I believe it was Thorn, who was mentioning me summoning you as a 'stud', for extra points in regards to the subject.. That is probably why that slipped.

Oh, man. I feel a bit bad that my joking comment got into your head and stayed there, but at the same time, the thought of a dream of yours making you reluctantly see a muscled Scipio and making the real Scipio have to read it gives me such a wonderful feeling of schadenfreude. He would totally give you extra points for flattering him! I'm trying the same strategy!

In any case, here's the usual two NDs with dialogue from me.

EDIT: quoted for new page.

Yay, been having absolutely zero recall lately. First time I stopped trying to get recall in ages really, but I am back in the business now. I normally only have LDs at night, but my LDs are trying hard to get in naps when I take them apparently.

Please don't judge me by these LDs either. tounge2 I normally have more fun adventures at night time. haha. (touch, taste)

I normally LD every other night, not once a week. meh

Today's DJ entry has an ND with dialogue followed by an ND with dialogue, a touching sensation (a hand), and seeing something grand (seeing somebody come back to life in a religious context). If you don't consider it grand, you can call it inspiring instead — I'm an atheist, but I'm sure this kind of dream would be inspiring to somebody else!

Love/hate

Tasted food, recall taste.
Tasted something I made,
I guess my salty tears filling my mouth counts as eating something 'non-food'
I ate my attempt to impress somebody, or they forced it down my throat.

And I think Cheesecake is the ultimate cheese.

Aside from that, vivid, dialogue.
Strangely, the emotions didn't linger after waking up. Though as I was eating breakfast, it occurred to me how successful last night actually was.

Two more NDs with dialogue here, and the second one also had music. I'm definitely concerned about the sharp decline in the number of LDs I've been having, and I'm not entirely sure how to fix it quickly enough to rebound before the LC closes.

Roast, Homeward

2 Seperate dreams
ND 1: Task - +Ate steak, recall taste (craving steak now.).
Other Task - +smell food, +smell something good, +touched warm steak, (+not sure if feeling the texture of the cutting of the steak counts as the texture touch, since it was more so through the knife than the steak itself.)
+Vivid

Dream 2:
LD, med, short, med, chain.
LD completion: +Tasted blood (something not-food?) +CHEEEEEESE (i consider cheating by disintigration, or teleportation, cheese)
LD Other: +Dialogue, +saw something grand (i consider seeing the doctors sonic screwdriver something grand. wouldn't you agree?) +Vivid detail (that screwdriver.. amonst other things, but.. that screwdriver..) +Touched something (blood)

Also, I stole wyvern's idea of highlighting task completion. Should alleviate some of the questions.

Transcendence

1 short ld
LD - personal task complete

LD - other tasks
+listen to the silence, +listen to a conversation
+touch something, +touch something unusual
+smell something, +smell something good
+see something grand, +see something inspiring. +see something vivid
(I also touched something impossible. A door made of solid light. It's unfortunate that was not a task. Walked on a trail of solid light aswell.)

Next personal task: Turn Thorn's hair minus-green. and as an added bonus: twin-tails. (no additional score points)

^ I am all for that Am I to assume that minus-green is what we mere peons call "pink" due to our perception and lack thereof of the color spectrum, or is it actually related to green? If the former, I guess I'll look like BrandonBoss' avatar, heh. In either case, all cool guys have impossible hair colors, and DC-me will thusly become a cool guy, as he meets all of the other "cool guy" requirements. :D

Edit: She clarified that she did mean pink, as I suspected.

Anyway, here's this morning's dream. It's fragmented, but it has dialogue, music, and a touch sensation (as I try to clutch a book printed on 600 separate sheets in a poly binder).

I ate raisins and a few days ago drank some cider. I have also been hearing a lot of conversations and visited a temple where I could hear silence and relax. I tried to talk there but my throat was sore and no voice came out (like the last time I was lucid). I also smelled oil a few days ago.

Edit: Colored blue the parts in my DJ that could be worth some points.

Two dreams here. The first one simply had dialogue. The second one started as a short LD with a normal touch sensation (light switches, which I grabbed repeatedly as they didn't work — they felt like normal light switches), then became a false awakening with touching something textured (my dog).

+ate something (chocolate Egg)
+ate something good (chocolate egg)
+touched something (painting)
+touched something with texture (painting)
+saw something grand (dragon)
+saw something vivid (I believe i could come close to reproducing this painting.)

Also.. So close, Thorn, so close..

I had a fragment that i had logged here and saw that i had 960 points. I have no idea what I actually have, so it may be interesting to see how accurate that was. Though that seems a bit more than my personal guess.

Okay, I think I've done some tasks. smile

Dialog on Wednesday (first dream) [link], Thursday (first dream) [link], and Friday [link].

Today:
First dream, dialog, and I guess you could say there was a touch sensation, when I got sprayed in the face with a sprinkler, though that's it touching me instead of me touching it. It felt like being sprayed in the face with water. lach1 Kind of like being slapped, but without the pain.

Second dream, saw something in vivid detail (maybe). It was the hinge on a cabinet door. neutral The description is in the DJ entry.

Third dream, dialog, and heard music (coming from a book). The music was only an instrumental, and I know there was a guitar in there, and drums. It was a pretty slow-paced song. Also, touch, when I grabbed a pen that I had in my pocket.

From what I hear in #ld4all and from James' post above, everybody who has been focusing on his/her dreams had a great night/morning! It's amazing! I was even a DC in James' and Wyvern's dreams, which is always an honor to me. Other people talking to me online are in a great mood too, so I'm constantly RCing to make sure today is real.

I had an eventful morning as well. The first and second NDs each have dialogue. The third dream has singing during the ND portion, then becomes a medium LD and has dialogue, what I would call touching something unusual (a shrink ray that morphed into a seltzer-spritzing power drill), touching something not unusual (Scipio's head), and tasting something normally consumable (seltzer).

demented: Welcome! tounge2 Kinda late, but hey, we weren't at max capacity yet. tounge2

Thorn: Horrible taste in music? tounge2 Have you seen the bonus task? (Of course you have.)

(In regard to TM inclusion:) Feel bad, Thorn. Feel bad. tounge2 ^^

Lumessence: Yay! You're back! grin Sure. I'll score them like you suggested, and I'll also try to keep an eye out for things you might miss or not understand (like extra details). smile

Erhmm... CHEESE CAKE! :D :D :D

Gratz on your personal goal. New goal noted. lach1

BrandonBoss: Judge you by your LDs? But that's what I'm supposed to be doing. tounge2 Well, anyways, you had a heck of a run with task points in one of those. You did most of the tasks.

Letaali: I'm gonna need more information on your dreams here if you plan to get any early, lucid, or combo points. Also, you need to link your DJ entries in the thread if you want me to read them. wink5

james_uk2008: I need a lucid dream length for your LD here.

OlegEqualzName: I'm gonna need more information on what you think you accomplished in your dreams here. I could guess, if you'd like, like Lumessence has allowed me to do on some of her dreams, but you'll probably get more points if you stake a claim as well. wink5

Task 6 - Emotion
And the plot thickens..

Or, at least I hope it will. tounge2 This week you move beyond the senses (but you can still earn points for previous tasks!) and into the realm of how you feel. As a follow up to details you can perceive, visual; auditory; touch; scent; and taste, we know go to the details that can only be felt within your mind. So go on and "feel" something!

  1. Feel any emotion + 50
  2. Feel said emotion with intensity + 60
  3. Feel multiple emotions simultaneously + 70
  4. Feel the emotion still after awakening + 80

For that last one, lucid points will be awarded if the emotion was felt while lucid during a dream. Also, by "after awakening" I mean that as you awoke you still felt the emotion. Good luck!

Bonus Task
Congrats go to demented and Lumessence for completing the past week's bonus. This weeks bonus is..

  • Do something involving Vocaloid!

Yup. You knew it was coming! I don't care what you do, it just has to involve Miku.. or Kaito.. or Luka.. or Teto.. or.. or.. or... tounge2

Scoreboard
Welp.. Who to give the creativity points to.. hmm.. I'll have to go with... LUMESSENCE! :D Why? Cheesecake is the ultimate cheese. :D

1 medium LD, chain x2
LD task completes=
+Felt emotion
+felt emotion intensely
+felt multiple emotions simultaneously
++bonus task (Kagamine Rin)

LD others:
+touched something (Rin's forehead)
+Dialogue
+see something in detail (I think Tankapillar is a better name. I described it in my DJ as to what I saw it while I was lucid a moment before. Since I saw it first while I was not lucid, I just felt to describe it when it first came up, but the details did come while I was Lucid)
+see something grand (Sphere of annihilation, white version)

ND other task completion=
+tasted something (hot chocolate)
+touched something warm (hot chocolate)
I had wrote chocolate milk, but just noticed I had.

Also.. I've been unsure of this. When you say "Hear a conversation", is it just overhearing others speaking, or does you as a participant count?

It seems like my usual dialogue points were "exchanged" for emotion points in this morning's NDs. The first ND had me shocked, taken aback, or however you'd like to describe it. The second ND started with frustration that then changed to frustration and surprise simultaneously; it also had music.

In chat, we can't seem to decide if confusion is an emotion. Some sources on the web say that it and interest are "knowledge emotions", but other sources say that it's a state of mind not considered an emotion. The frustration was derived from the confusion, but the surprise makes it fit part 3 of the task despite the ruling on confusion. I'm just asking for future reference, as I'm often confused in dreams but rarely make the logical leap to "I'm confused because I'm dreaming."

Scipio's daily dose of Thorn's dreams is here. The first dream is a fragment with dialogue. The second dream (a long LD) is where the fun is. Every point category from the ND part is also in the LD part, and I don't believe it counts twice, so I'll simply recount the lucid part. I heard dialogue, heard music, touched something textured (a balloon), touched something cold (a drink), tasted something (a drink), felt emotions throughout the dream (happiness, disappointment, amusement, hubris), and felt an emotion carry over from the dream to waking.

Alright, today:

First dream, dialog.

Second dream, I felt an emotion, frustration, because of an Internet problem. It wasn't really the problem itself that made me frustrated, even though it did interrupt something I was doing, but that I tried to fix it and it kept happening. And I started thinking about all the other things that were annoying me, but then I forgot it all pretty quickly.

Finally had a LD last night. Stress does not bode well for my LD count I guess.

Anyways, it was a medium LD. I saw something grand and vivid when I saw a volcano exploding outside my window, with a whole bunch of livestock running away from it. While watching this, I experienced fear and anxiety, but only to a minor degree.

I don't know if the same sight can count for something being grand and vivid, but it was certainly both. Also, I don't know if fear and anxiety count as emotions, but they did occur simultaneously.

Another day, another DJ entry. Only one dream this time, but it's a good one. smile It starts as an ND with dialogue and two simultaneous emotions (uneasiness at a person's glare and upset at his actions). It becomes a medium LD that with one sight finishes my personal goal, fills me with emotion (amazement) that is both intense and persisting after waking, and covers all three parts of the sight task (it's certainly a grand sight, it inspired me enough to change the incubations I've been doing, and I'm able to give many details about its appearance).

For a second personal goal, I'd like to correct yesterday's shapeshifting issues. In the last LC, I did use "transform" as a personal goal, but I did it just by wearing a costume and somehow becoming very large — I was still human in that outfit. I would like to get the "shape" back into "shapeshifting" again, so I'm going to use that word this time instead and be insistent on getting the desired result instead of any result that fits the definition.

I saw something grand in a ND. I was in the middle of a secret Dalek invasion of earth. I failed to stop their plans, but the dream changed to another one before they actually were ready to take over the whole world. When the dream changed, I became lucid. Overall, it was a short LD. In the LD, I touched a pair of wool socks, although they just felt like cotton socks instead of wool. I also became really excited (it was fairly intense) in the LD before I awoke to a FA. I don't know if being really excited counts as an emotion or not.

I got really angry in a ND, and when I woke up I was still pretty angry towards the person IRL, although they didn't actually do anything outside of the dream to make me angry. It only lasted for a little bit, and after a minute or two, it was just a slight irritation with that person.

Yesterday, dialog. [link]

Today (first dream), I felt an emotion, I'm not sure what to call it... I'll say I was agitated. That's because of the bossy people in charge of the movie theater, who are suddenly telling me when I'm going to watch the movie, and where, and taking my ID away, which made me stressed out and not able to enjoy the movie like I should. Also, I'll say I touched something cold, when I felt the floor of the elevator under my feet, which was noticeably cooler (and more polished ) than the carpet in the hall, if that counts.

This is gonna be a long one XD

From several weeks ago (when smell task was current):

ND where I had a conversation with a DC in a convenience store. He was complaining that the cashier sucked. I could hear music playing in the background, though it had no real melody or rhythm that I could discern. I remember his face clearly, lots of course hair. He smeared something on my arms that was black and definitely smelled bad. Don't remember anything with quite the same smell... perhaps rotten tuna? It felt slimy and not at all pleasant.

Next ND was on a cruise ship on a river. Lots of bright lights, and I would consider it grand. Saw a swimming pool that was generally awesome with its decor (I think New Orleans based) that definitely inspired me to go swimming from the looks alone. Carried on various conversations with different DC's, including a really fat Iraqi man with disturbingly vivid body hair.

Another ND with Wyvern that included general kissing and whatnot. Felt warm, moist, pleasurable, and soft. Conversations were had. Smelled his hair <3.

From last week (when taste was current)

Had an ND where I ate a hamburger. Not much to say other than that. It smelled nice, for sure, and I could stretch and say that seeing a picture of it inspired me to order it tounge2. Oh, I do remember it feeling slightly greasy.

ND while I was at work, though electronics department looked like a blockbuster. My manager and I found a room filled with old VHS tapes. I could see them in very vivid detail, was even able to read most of the labels with no issue. The rooms smelled dusty for sure. Also, as geeky as it sounds, all those sleeve covers looked grand to me in a nostalgic way.

Had a medium length LD, but I have since forgotten most details since I waited so long to post tounge2

From this week (emotion, obviously)

Had a *huge* string of LD's earlier. It started with an ND were my wife brought a stray cat home. We argued (conversation) about keeping it. I felt extrememly frustrated at her. It's fur felt kind of greasy and there were bumps on its skin. It's meow also sounded incredibly disturbing. The dream then jumped to me being at S__rs and watching a demo video which also had music playing.

Here's the LD portion which was a separate dream. I'll put this in spoilers because it is so long.
Click here to see the hidden message (It might contain spoilers)

I woke up and checked the time and realized I had about another 45 minutes to be able to sleep, so I used WILD. This next chain included roughly 4 FA's as well in which I needed to RC to regain lucidity.

Click here to see the hidden message (It might contain spoilers)

In an ND, I was stuck in a hotel in which I was not allowed to leave. I had several conversations with DC's asking to leave, but most said it was not up to them. There were a lot of trees and streams in the lobby which were vivid and I would say the hotel was grand as a whole. I could smell popcorn coming from a movie theater area. I got in a Matrix-style fight with CIA agents and felt pain when they hit me with a cart. Emotionally, I felt confusion, anger, and frustration.

Edit: the last two LD's would both be long with the chains included

I touched some books with a hardcover, which felt like they do IRL. I also was rummaging through and touching some really old magazine/paperback books that were surprisingly like what you would imagine IRL (very crispy, but not crinkled). I also went into a bookstore later, where I could see all of the books and movies very vividly. I can still remember what they look like extremely well (For the most part, they were all Harry Potter).

I also remember a conversation from the dream. I asked someone how to say goodbye in their language (I was in a foreign country chasing Voldemort, ended up at a garage sale where I rummage through the books that I described touching earlier). He said "how do you think you should say goodbye." I said "I'll go first." Then he said "I hate it when my uncle talks like that. Most of us just say goodbye" (goodbye was actually in a foreign language[The word actually means hello IRL]). I then said "goodbye" as instructed by the person I had been talking to. He told me I said it too loud, so I said it again quieter.

I also had feelings of hope and being ecstatic last night, although I don't know if these will count for emotions.

Four NDs here. The first dream has dialogue (and worry, but I forget why I worry, so I am unsure about if it scores). The second dream has intense fear that manifests for a few seconds after waking. The third dream is a fragment with a moment of panic. The fourth dream is an FLD and has taste (squash, chicken) and dialogue.

Lumessence: Lol. tounge2

Also, as long as you can remember exactly what was said, it will count for Dialogue.

I gave you points for the (fear, anger) dream.

Thorn: Did some research and I'm going to say for the sake of the LC confusion is a mental state, not an emotion. Sorry. sadblauw

New Personal Goal noted. smile

muccy: Nice try! :D

Mew151: TOO EAZY eh? tounge2

Wyvern: eek2 I better have tasted good! tounge2

A WHOLE NEW FRIDGE??? reallybiggrin

HeadInTheClouds: Yes the same sight can be counted for both parts.

BrandonBoss: I wasn't able to score your dreams here as it was difficult for me to follow your DJ entry. Could you please separate your claims in each dream into sections where you were / weren't lucid as well as clarify which parts happened where? It's difficult for me to score in its current form.

And yes, you can repeat the same personal goal again if you'd like. smile

Rhewin: That took a bit, but your dream dump is scored. smile

Task 7 - In Greater Detail
And so we come to the final quest in our journey. You all have been focusing on the recollection of one thing: detail. But what good is a singular detail in the midst of a sea of forms? Nothing. It is singular. And with that, you shall search now for greater detail.

This week's task will charge you with not only quality, but quantity. You will need to perform tasks similar to the previous ones simultaneously! Not one or two, but at least three to gain points! Of course.. should you manage to take in all six at once you shall have accomplished the true purpose of this Lucid Challenge, and so I wish you luck!

  1. Take in a panoramic view of the scenery around you.
  2. Listen to your heart and the world around you.
  3. Feel the earth in your hands; feel the world hold you.
  4. Breathe in the aroma of the dream spirits; let them fill you.
  5. Taste the nectar offered to you by your mind.
  6. Let emotion inundate you; let your mind be swept away by the currents of your subconscious.

You may notice there are no scores listed. That is because this task is scored on how many of the above are completed in one sitting. NOTE: you need to experience the six (or any smaller combination thereof) within a short time frame in order for it to be counted as simultaneous. Also, note that if you claim Task 7, you are not eligible for points from the previous tasks. Additionally, previous tasks are only worth one fourth of their listed scores, rounded down.

Please note that a DJ entry is REQUIRED to claim Task 7 points. If you do not have a DJ on the forums feel free to post your dream in the thread or PM it to me. When claiming Task 7 be sure to mention that you are (claiming Task 7) in your post and state which of the six portions you believe you accomplished. I will give the final ruling after reading your submission as to how many points you deserved.

Remember, the more detail, the more likely you'll earn points!

The scoring is as follows: 1000 * (1 / 2) ^ (6 - n) where n >= 3. (Sorry for the maths. tounge2) Note that Lucid, Combo, and Early points involved apply to the six components individually. This means that should you complete at least three (say 3 for this example) you will earn 3 lucid, 3 early, and 2 combo sets.

If you have any other question, please feel free to ask!

You may notice this post is up earlier. Should you still have tasks that complete emotion to submit I will accept them, but I will be unable to post this at 6 per normal. Task 6 will only award early points, though, until 6PM EST (or one hour from this posting) so if you have your dream after, I'm sorry. tounge2

This task will run for one week until approximately 6 PM EST, Sunday, October 6, 2013. At that point in time the awards shall be given out and the next (possible) Task Master shall be crowned! Good luck!

Bonus Task
Congrats go again to Lumessence (for completing the task twice!) and to Mew for his.. err.. "completion" as well. tounge2 Since we're in the act of creating bonuses from my addictions, why not one more. This weeks bonus...

Yup. I just did that. tounge2

Scoreboard
This week the creativity points are more of "Interesting Points". I wouldn't say any of the accomplishments of this task were 'creative', but Lumessence's emotional tasks were at least emotionally touching to me while reading them. As such, she gains this weeks creativity points.

Since Scipio likes math and most of you don't, I'll note that it seems to break down as follows with lucid, combo, and early points added in:

1 or 2 task parts: no points
3 task parts: 315 points
4 task parts: 510 points
5 task parts: 830 points
6 task parts: 1400 points

This does not include points for lucid dream length, new induction methods, or creativity points.

This task is a weapon. In Rhewin or Wyvern's hands, that weapon might be a blue shell. I am scared.

Okay, I have a huge backlog of dreams to post. But after I've posted them, I will have completed my personal task.
Just putting my new randomly generated personal task here so it's declared beforehand. (using Thorn's !idea script in irc tounge2)

!idea script wrote:

[05:53.05] <@Thorn> Cockatrice, in your next LD, you should meditate while in a toilet and in the form of a dragon (like everybody else on #ld4all)!

Um... sure... why not.

Okay, I tried Task 7 in a medium-length LD and wrote about it here. It all comes down to how true this is:

<Scipio> THORN!
<Thorn> SCIPIO!
<Scipio> IT AIN'T THAT COMPLICATED..
<Thorn> dude, I almost went to bed with part 2 incubated wrong
<Scipio> Just focus on great enough detail for each sense near simultaneously and that should probably net you points.

I dealt with all five senses and emotion, but still don't seem to have covered all of the task. I definitely completed Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. For Part 4, I did use my sense of smell on the wet grass in which I was laying, but there were no spirits of the religious, paranormal, or alcoholic type anywhere; I also did not feel full. For Part 5, I did taste a plant, but it was not a nectar-producing plant. For Part 6, I feel that I managed the first half, but I am unsure about the second half about being "swept away" unless a change in dream scene at the same time as the emotion counts.

The following ND had dialogue, and depending on how touch is counted, a feeling of a person's weight on me (although she touched me instead of me touching her).

EDIT: I asked yesterday about a touch sensation via my foot in an ND (the FLD at the end of yesterday's DJ entry), then forgot to claim it in my mad rush to get points posted in time for grading. Is it too late to claim those points and their combo points? If not, are they lessened since I'm putting in the claim after the 75% reduction on task points?

Thorn: Aww... All the fun... tounge2 But seriously, guys, those are the right numbers. wink5

And Thorn I scored your Task 7 dream as n = 4 because senses 4 and 5 weren't very detailed.

Wyvern: New personal goal... noted as soon as you post the other dreams. tounge2 Till then you're still on the old one.

^ I am not entirely sure how to describe the smell of wet grass or the taste of spinach. I can really only describe spinach as one of the few vegetable tastes that doesn't make me want to vomit. If you'd like to buy me some spinach, I can perhaps go eat some and try to describe it in terms of sweetness, sourness, and bitterness...? I can say it was soggy and juicy, but that's tactile, not taste. I can say it tasted like my mother's spinach, but I don't think that's the detail you want. Please tell me what you need to know, as the scoring increases nearly three-fold between four parts and six parts.

EDIT: Answered in chat. I'll probably just ignore the smell and taste parts, as I don't think I'm capable.

Here is an insignificant amount of points. Dialogue in the first dream, and dialogue, touching (weighty boxes), and intense emotion (fear) in the second dream.

EDIT: I spoke to Bombax in yesterday's LD as well (for dialogue, combo, and lucid points). I didn't claim it yesterday due to miscommunication about the rules.

My latest dream: Credit Card Payment Facility

I think I have Tasks 1, 2, 3 and 6 in there.

On sight: I put some detail there on the 3D puzzle I was given.

On sound: I had two conversations, one with the lady guard in Filipino and the last one with the two professors in English.

On touch: again the 3D puzzle. I remember playing around with it with my hands.

On emotion: I felt a bit uneasy when I was being held up by the first professor. I felt defensive when Nate started implying it was easy to pay bills. I felt upset and defensive on the verge of crying when I realized they had misunderstood me and thought I was a certain way when I wasn't (felt this strongly, and it stuck a bit upon waking). I felt freaked out when I saw the guy from the toilet.

Everyone: Well.. despite what vision I had of this task being a perfect culmination.. it is far from perfect.. In fact.. it seems I broke the LC.. Or at least the general understanding I get is that I've done it pretty poorly..

The good news? The deadline is this Sunday.. the bad news? That's nearly five days away..

One thing I'd like to note, though, is that I won't be taking new dreams after 6 PM EST on Sunday (unless you have an exceptional case like having a dream at 5:45 and you want to get it typed up... in that case, send me a PM and I'll accept your dream). Therefore, try to have all of your dreams submitted by then (unless you're in the exceptions group wink5 ). Sometime after 6 PM, estimated thirty minutes to an hour, I will post the results.

Results are eligible to be contested and changes will be made if any arguments made are reasonable. I will post, during this time, the document I have containing the info on how I scored everyone's individual dreams.

Thorn: Sorry for the confusion.. sadblauw As an additional clarification to everyone, if you do Task 7 in a dream you cannot claim Tasks 1 - 6 in that dream. You can claim them in the next, though, if you wish.

LDbc12: You may post a new Personal Goal if you'd like, or you can decide to attempt this one again. Whatever your decision please post it in the thread. smile

Jessica: I scored your dream as having components of Tasks 1, 2, 3, and 6; not as Task 7 since the components didn't occur simultaneously. (Just in case you were confused.)

Rhewin: tounge2 I haven't dreamt of it yet.. surprisingly. tounge2

I had some fragments of NDs, written here, that had a mix of emotions.

More important than the points, though, is that you seem to be beating yourself up now and saying you "broke the LC". I know the way we've been communicating in IRC has been a bit adversarial at times, so let me speak openly in this post.

What's getting to me is really a lot of little things. For example, it's normal for the LC to have some tasks that are more action-oriented while others are more laid-back, but this LC has been the latter for all seven tasks; getting too involved in an adventurous LD actually threatens to distract the dreamer from the detail needed for points, so it's been seven weeks of "tame" LDs for me when I'm itching to have some crazier dreams. Also, the scoring system does bug me, but that didn't start with you — it's actually a holdover from HeadInTheClouds changing the definition of combo points while also creating some repeatable tasks for LC 37.

I guess the only thing that ever made me "angry" was a lack of clear communication. Your tasks seemed to be written as if the words were supposed to be pleasing to our ears instead of actually descriptive. This is why I'm going about the tasks "literally", as you have said; it's not always clear what is necessary, so I do what is written. For instance, Task 7 Part 2 seems to require two sounds to be heard (one's own heart and some outside sound), but after speaking to you on IRC, it seems that the "to your heart and" phrase was just to make it sound special and doesn't actually play into the task. Likewise, words like "unusual" in task descriptions seemed to be up to our interpretation, but sometimes weren't. I would prefer knowing exactly what to do over having the tasks sound interesting.

However, I'm not perfect either. I've been way more vocal about small issues than I should be, and it's clearly making you feel like everything's ruined. When I prepare a sample LC and talk about how I'd do this or that differently, I'm really just amping myself up to keep LDing; you've seen many times in the past that I LD more often when I'm emotionally involved, such as being angry at other LC participants gaining ground on me or being happy about a planned dream. In this case, I'm giving myself something that I'd like to do, and the only way I can do it is by winning this LC. Please don't think I'm saying such things just to paint your LC as a broken one, as it's me selfishly saying things to get myself motivated without thinking of the effect it has on you. Beyond that, I've been a whiner because I'm up against difficult odds. Wyvern doesn't have NLDs, and in the scoring system used by you and HeadInTheClouds, his long LDs allow for as many points as he cares to get (whereas the old LCs had a much lower max point value each week given the different method of applying lucid/early/combo points and generally smaller numbers overall). Against tough odds, I tend to lash out at insignificant things, and it's particularly rough for me this time because I have no control over my standing; if Wyvern wants to win, he will just type enough dreams to win, and if he doesn't, he will not. I am basically defending myself from third place rather than trying to guarantee first because I don't know what Wyvern is thinking, and it's a feeling that's been dragging me down and making me argue points that aren't worth arguing.

While I know that I'm not the only one that complained, I feel like I complained the most. I'm not going to fib and say that this LC was perfect, because there are things that I truly believe could have been done better, but I'm making it sound way worse than it actually is because I'm selfish and insecure with the idea that my final standing is not in my control. I don't hate this LC and I don't think less of you in any way for the small issues — if I did, I wouldn't have ask for DC-you as a companion for Tiny Adventures™. So for both of our sakes, please stop thinking that you've somehow ruined everything, as it's not a mood I want any friend of mine to have.

Thorn: Yea, but it's still a feeling of "sigh". I guess I may have been beating myself up too much about it. I apologize for things like the unclear communication.. I was trying to make the tasks seem more involved than they were and that fudged things up a bit.

The good news is, though, that if I ever host again I'll know what does and doesn't work. wink5 Thanks for the message.

Also, Scribe Idea: How to Host a Challenge. That would be awesome and it could be filled with some useful tips.. like making tasks action oriented. tounge2

I had a ND the other night where I saw something inspiring and vivid. There were a whole bunch of black looking birds (maybe chickens?). Their chests were different colors and designs, with every design or color being on only two birds. A lot of the designs looked a lot like a very lifelike and vivid, not to mention feathery, wallpaper.

Okay, so I'm not really sure how this last task works and what qualifies for it. I think that this following dream completes 5 out of 6 of the combinations.

I had a medium LD last night. I was outside and I stood and looked up at the sky. It was night time. There was a tiny looking moon and a few stars. I continued to look around me, not just at the sky, and I eventually saw another tiny moon as well as a cool cloud cover at the bottom of the horizon. I don't know how to describe it, but the clouds were just awesome for some reason. I smelt the air multiple times, and although I didn't smell too much, I did get a slight hint of it just smelling like air if that makes any sense. I also stuck my tongue out and licked my lips, tasting my skin in the process as well as actually feeling my skin. That all seemed pretty much the same as IRL. As I spun around, I could definitely feel the earth hold me, but I don't know how to describe that feeling better. It was kind of like having a perfect sense of direction and thereby not needing a compass. I don't remember too much sound, but I think I heard a slight breeze; however, the outside place had no people or animals around and was very quiet.

Double posting as well. Since I woke up at 4am, I had time for another dream to remember this morning: Basketball Showdown

Okay everyone! The time for submissions is over! I will post the final results in an hour or two.. when I get the chance to get to it. tounge2

For those curious, congrats go to Rhewin and other who completed the Bonus Task! Click that Cookie!

And the creativity points for Task 7 go to Thorn for having the earth "hold him" in quite the literal way.. tounge2

Further Submissions
No more dream submissions will be accepted EXCEPT those that qualify as an exception. Specifically, if you had the dream close enough to the deadline that writing up an entry was not possible in the short time, or if IRL requirements such as a Job delayed you from submitting the entry, I will accept those dreams beyond the deadline.

Also, all scores will be open to contestation after the final posting of the scores (along with my detailed log of how I scored everyone's dreams).

Until I post the final results, thanks everyone for competing! And don't forget to reserve your seat! Spoiler.. XD

The Lucidity Challenge 38 Awards Ceremony!
You enter the theatre jubilantly. The time has come! The night is tonight! It's the moment everyone has been waiting for! Unable to contain your excitement you move quickly down the aisle and take your seat.. the show is about to begin.

The lights go down and some slow, dramatic music begins to build. Through the shadows you can barely make out a figure who moves onto the stage. Just as the music crescendos a spotlight illuminates the figure!

"Hello! And welcome to the Lucid Challenge Thirty-Eight Awards Ceremony! As most of you already know, my name is Scipio Xaos and I will be your host for the evening." The LC's taskmaster says to the excited crowd. "We've got quite a show for you all tonight! So many awards to give.. so many memories to relive.. well, what are we waiting for?? Let's get this show started!" Scipio yells into the air as the crowd breaks into cheers.

Scipio walks offstage and the lights dim once more. Suddenly, the LD4All insignia with the title "LC 38 Awards Ceremony" appears on a large projection screen above the stage. A narrative voice booms out. "Tonight, our first Challenge Highlight comes from the contestant muccy! His dream, dubbed "Pancake Club" amused the competitors a little under two weeks into the competition.. Let's listen to what he had to say.."

muccy wrote:
Me and my friends go into a cave and i clearly remeber me reciting the fight club rules but to do with pancakes.

"first rule of pancake club, you do not talk about pancake club"
"second rule, no pancakes for breakfast"
"third rule, if it is your first night here you must flip a pancake"

Made me chuckle.

"Made us all chuckle.. Heh heh."

The projector light fades and the stage lights regain intensity. Everyone, expecting the Taskmaster to return to the stage, gazes on in awe and admiration as the beautiful StarryGwee walks out to greet everyone.

"Hello everyone! I'll be your co-host for this evening." She says with a wink. "And I have the honor of giving out the first two awards of the night!

"So.. our first award, PERSONALity, goes to the competitor who completed the most personal goals."
Gwee is handed an envelope. "And the award goes to.."

"The next award, Let's Go Questing!, goes to the competitor who completed the most LD4All quests during the challenge." Opening another envelope, Gwee speaks to the crowd.

"Let's give these contestants a round of applause, shall we?" The crowd stands and applauses the recipients. "And now we'll have another Challenge Highlight.."

StarryGwee steps offstage and the lights dim again. The projector fires up again and the narrator's voice fills the theatre.

"This Lucidity Challenge took an, uh, 'unexpected' turn.." The narrator says with a humorous tinge of embarrassment. "Thanks to the actions of Thorn, Wyvern, and later, Rhewin, the tasks were interpreted in some very unusual, and unorthodox ways. Due to the nature of such content, it is advised that viewers proceed forwards at their own risk.

"Everyone else, please enjoy the rest of the program!"
Once again the projector is turned off and the lights rise. Scipio Xaos walks back out onto the stage.

"Alright everyone. The next two awards are Chained and C-C-C-Combo Breaker!" The crowd laughs. "Chained is awarded to the contestant who has scored the most points through Chains." Scipio opens an envelope.

Scipio brushed off his suit jacket and took the next award envelope in hand. "And now for the humorous one." He chuckled. "C-C-C-Combo Breaker! is awarded to the competitor who amassed the most Combo Sets. This award goes to.."

"Give these recipients a round of applause!" Scipio yelled out to the crowd. Once the silence returned he spoke. "Now, enjoy another Challenge Highlight brought to you by LD4All."

"Sort of not related to the challenge," The narrator said. "But humorous none-the-less. User mango_panda stopped by and had the following to say:"

"Congratulations!?!"

StarryGwee walked back out onto the stage and gestured to the crowd. "Now we get into the more 'coveted' awards of the evening. The next award, Early Bird is awarded to the competitor who had the most early tasks submitted." Gwee began to open the envelope.

"The next award, Lucid Worm," The audience laughs at the play on the metaphor. "Goes to the contestant who completed the most lucid tasks."

"And finally we have Task "Master". This person acquired the most Task Points compared to the rest of the contestants." StarryGwee began to read out the name...

The audience applauded the recipients as the next Challenge Highlight was presented.. surprisingly.. Wyvern was on stage.. And he began to perform!

Wyvern wrote:
“A whole new fridge, eh?” I then broke into song.

”I can show you this fridge.
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me Trevor, now when did you first
decide to check inside?
I can open this fridge
and I opened the fridge. Trevor laughed.
And I can show you its wonders
Compartments over and under
in this magic food filled ride

A whole new fridge!
A new fantastic fridge for you
No one can tell us no, or where to go
But hey, we're only dreaming.
I smiled and switched to falsetto.
A whole new fridge!
A dazzling place I never knew
And when you look in here, it's crystal clear
And now I'll share this whole new fridge with-
Back to male voice
Now I'll share this whole new fridge - Then back to falsetto for the next verse. The dream gave my 'female' voice an unusually nice resonance. It was kind of hilarious.

Unbelievable sights
Indescribable eatings
I stumbled a bit on the next lyrics, can't remember what I ended up saying there.

I whole new fridge!
DON'T YOU DARE CLOSE THE FRIDGE
I said almost aggressively with the fridge door handle, both Trevor and Gabe laughed.
A hundred thousand things to eat!
Just like an open bar
Food near and far
I can't go back to what I used to eat

Every turn a surprise
I gestured at all the food in each compartment.
Every moment gets better
I'll take food anywhere
There's food to spare
Let me share this whole new fridge with you
the background music started coming to a close... it was playing as I sang. XD

A whole new fridge
That's where we'll eat
A thrilling space
A wondrous place
For you and meeee

The audience broke into cheers as Wyvern finished his routine and took his seat. Scipio Xaos made his way back to the stage.

"And so we come to the penultimate list of awards. Given that this is the 'Lucid Challenge' you would expect some rewards to be based on lucidity would you not? Well, we have four of them!

"The first, Lucid Initiate is awarded to the LC competitor who achieved the most Short Lucid dreams, but did not rank any higher in this category of awards."
Scipio opened the envelope.

"Congratulations to everyone who received an award in the Lucidity category! Please enjoy the last Challenge Spotlight of the night!"

The stage dimmed and the projector was fired up for the last time.

"Hello everyone!" Said the narrator in a rush. "The last Highlight.." He fumbled. Crunching noises could be heard. ".. seems to be addicting.. Just take a look for yourself."

Rhewin wrote:
I had a dream of playing cookie clicker... damn you, Scipio, damn you! My browser hasn't been shut since Sunday tounge2

As the projector was turned off all that could be heard of the narrator was frantic clicking and the crisp crunch of delicious cookies.

The stage remained dark however. For a full minute the contestants of the LC were left in total darkness. Slowly a tune began to build. A single spotlight lit the floor. The melody grew louder and louder, more epic and more epic. The beating drums reverberated in the chests of everyone present. Scipio and Gwee walked out and stepped into the center of the spotlight.

"And so we come to the final award of the night." Scipio said. "It is the most coveted of the entire challenge. It is.. The winner of the challenge, the next.. Taskmaster. StarryGwee, could you please hand me the envelope?" As she passed him the golden rectangle the audience were on the edges of their seats. Scipio slowly opened the envelope and gazed at the name within. He smiled.

Starry Gwee let out a shout. "Thorn! Congratulations! You are the winner of the LC 38 and the next Taskmaster! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create more awesome challenges for the contestants to do!"

"Congratulations, Thorn!" Scipio yelled out. "I hope everyone has enjoyed the evening. I thank you for allowing me to host the Lucidity Challenge 38, and I look forward to future years of competitions. Congratulations go out to everyone who competed! Y'all have a great night and pleasant, pleasant Lucid Dreams."

Scipio and Gwee walked off stage as the music picked up and the audience discussed in loud chatter the final results.

Thanks for letting me in late, Scipio and for running the competition, it looks like a lot of work (especially reading Wyvern's sexual dreams tounge2). Sorry I didn't post in the last week. I hope the next challenge has harder challenges that don't happen NDs. I hate typing up NDs, and the amount of typing I had to do made me not even post some LDs. meh I am excited about the next one though.
