Ok. I'm trying this again. Not with hot chocolate but with real Hershey's Chocolate. I'll report back when I can.

Again when I mentioned Milk Chocolate and Hershey's, I was saying that they have hardly any significant amount of real chocolate in them, so you're really just experimenting with the effects of sugar, not chocolate.

Dark chocolate tends to have a higher percentage of real Cacao, hence why its bitterness. So if you you're interested in the effects of chocolate on dreams (rather than the effects of sugar), then Milk Chocolate, hot cocoa, and ice cream aren't going to give you accurate results. I'm not a big chocolate eater really, I'm just really interested to see if it's the cacao giving you a good dream rather than all the sugar.

Here's an excerpt from Hershey's site, as they just released some higher percentage chocolate:

"According to a recent New York Sun taste test, CACAO RESERVE BY HERSHEY'S ranks among the best tasting premium chocolates. Our cacao percentages range from a silky smooth 35% Cacao Milk Chocolate to a bold, rich 70% Cacao Dark Sao Tome Chocolate with a big finish. But what exactly do the cacao percentages mean?

When you see a cacao percentage on chocolate packaging, it means that product contains that specific percentage of pure, unadulterated, straight-from-the-bean ingredients. Higher cacao percentages result in less sweet, more intense chocolate flavor that defines premium dark chocolate. Meanwhile, lower cacao percentages lead to a rich creamy flavor combination that can be found in premium milk chocolate. "

Keep in mind 70% isn't the highest, as other companies put out 95%, although I haven't found any. I hear it's like eating coal

Well I had poor dream recall, and I only remembered two dreams. But they had guns in it.

Just like my really violent weird one. There was a big belt-fed machine-gun.
But like AfterHours said, that could be from the sugar...

Chocolate before sleep, aside from the obvious implications on your teeth, has been found by me to be fairly relaxing and has inspired a few dreams where I am in a land of chocolate (that's me). My dream Bible: Lucid Dreaming: A Beginner's Guide, recommends not eating chocolate or anything with caffeine in it before bed, as it leads to restless sleep and no memorable dreams. It may be different for other people though.
