update:
Dr. Buzzi has send me the following:
--
Dear all, I am currently analyzing the results of the false awakening
survey, and I found an intriguing datum which deserves further
investigation. To this purpose, I put online a very brief supplement to the
survey, and I would be very grateful to all the ones who will spend just a
few minutes to fill it out (you can participate in this brief supplement
whether you participated in the former survey or not). The link is:
http://www.100megsfree.com/gibuzz/Surveysuppl.htm
thank you all in advance for participating!
the following is the letter to the previous survey, which has already been conducted.
This has been sent to me by Giorgio Buzzi, M.D.
---
I’m an Italian practicing neurologist (Department of Neurology,
National Health Service, Ravenna, Italy) with a particular interest in sleep and sleep disorders.
My previous work in this field includes: a study on the phenomenology of sleep paralysis (accessible online at http://www.sro.org/2000/Buzzi/61/ );
a study suggesting a possible disorder of REM sleep in the periodic paralyses (accessible at http://hkpp.org/index.php?Sleep%20Complaints%20in%20P eriodic%20Paralysis );
and a comment about the out-of-body experiences in sleep paralysis and in near-death experiences (Lancet vol. 359, June 15, 2002, pp. 2116-2117, letter).
I am currently studying the phenomenology of false awakenings, which are under-represented in the medical literature, as compared with sleep paralysis or lucid dreams.
I am sending this e-mail since I am running an online survey on false
awakenings (see http://www.100megsfree.com/gibuzz/Survey.htm ),
and I was wondering if it would be possible to post an advertisement on the LD4all discussion forum about it.
-----
So everybody please check out the survey

Yes great survey!! Lol I had to look up my old dream diaries to search for my typical FA characteristics.
I'm curious about the results!

Through taking reality checks every time I wake up, I have discovered that I have more FA's than I first believed. Quite often, when you wake up in the night and then go back to sleep will actually have been a FA (and you never know about it).
I have also come across with the theory that FA's are a ay to wake you up (typically to calm you down after a nightmare) without losing any REM time.

I didn't find that the new questions about FA make a great sense. Most of time, I have no occasions to speak or read during a FA...
What do you think about ?
