I would like to see how in depth you can be as a different person in an LD.
Weither you morph into another person, dream yourself of being somebody else, being somebody you know, somebody you have never met, or even superman, whomever you dream yourself as being as long as it is somebody other than you!
How in depth are you as this charachter?
Do you have memmories specific to this person?
What are there physical characteristics?
What kind of personality do they have?
How are they different from you?
Do you know this person? or know of them? Any idea where this character came from?

wink

Well this doesnt strike much interest, is there another topic that has to do with being a different person in dreams? it is something that fascinates me as i am hardly ever dream of being myself. I would like to see how intricate these different personalites can get.

Thanks - i think.

When I'm another character in a dream, I'm completely this person (memories, physical characteristics, etc.) They can be completely different from me (I've dreamt I was a very old woman, living in the country, and it was in a LD). I've no idea where they come from.

Ah, I feel sorry for you, since I find this topic interesting. My dreams aren't lucid, however, so I don't know how useful my reply will be to you. Seeing as you said for lucid dreams and all. (It's really annoying - I can't reply to lots of interesting topics because they're all for lucid dreams... grrr. But anyway.)

How in depth are you as this charachter?
Well, for a start I don't just become one recurring character. Whoever I happen to be in a dream, it's never the same person twice. Likewise, the degree of "depth" varies a lot as well. Sometimes I'm a completely different person, with different memories, history, personality and even a different name. At other times, I'm half-myself and half-somebody else. My personality might be different, or my looks, or my memory, but there is enough of myself there to know the real me is in there as well. And then there are times when I'm entirely myself except for some minor detail such as a name change or false memories. So, there is no set rule in my case - it varies completely.

Do you have memories specific to this person?
Well, yes, but it varies according to the person and the situation. Usually my dreams are set in different worlds and the memories are directly related to these - especially the "rules" and "set-up" of the worlds. Even when I'm myself, I nearly always find I "remember" things pertaining to the scenario in the dream world. However, I sometimes find myself in the situation where I have completely different memories - the most specific was a time I dreamt of recalling my childhood experiences with an old friend (who was completely made up, of course).

What are there physical characteristics?
Usually nothing like me. Several times I have dreamed of being male, sometimes a very young boy. I've also dreamed of being a young girl a few times. And, of course, I've been countless other girls of my own age. Many are not even of my own race - I've dreamed of being Asian and Southern European in appearance. Some are tall, some are short. They've had black, red, blonde, brown and even green hair, have been dressed in all sorts of outlandish (but very pretty) fashions (although I once dreamed I was wearing some appalling punk-jester outfit) and have varying skin tones. Usually a nice sort of creamy-white, but sometimes olive, tanned or freckled. Some of the people I've been have even had feathered wings like angels. The only thing they all have in common is that they are never more than a couple of years older than my real age, and they are all very good-looking. Even the men and the young children. smile

What kind of personality do they have?
Usually this is very consistent with my real personality - that is, logical and clear-headed, taking bold risks but only after considering the consequences. Standing up for myself if I need to. Not willing to give up without at least several attempts to resolve a problem. Also getting wild random crushes on attractive people I hardly know, that sort of thing, lol.
However, I've had a couple of dreams in the past in which my emotions have run away from themselves. The most common of these is anger - a couple of my characters have flown into rages so terrible they almost turn violent. Usually this is sparked by something really frustrating, and it's all I can do to refrain from punching someone in the face, or worse. Very difficult to control, but luckily this only happens comparitively rarely.

How are they different from you?
The main differences are memory and appearance. Again, this varies wildly, depending on the person and the situation. If I'm in something resembling the real world, I'm far more likely to be closer to my real self, but if the world is significantly different, chances are I will be too. I'm pretty sure this is because my memories of the real world would make little to no sense in the made-up one, so my dream invents new ones for me.

Another very common difference is that these dream personas have skills and powers that I do not. Admittedly, I often gain magic powers and such even when I am myself in all else, but it tends to be more common while I'm being at least partially somebody else. The most obvious would be flying (especially for the people with angel wings) and specialised sorcery such as shapeshifting or riding a broomstick. Usually when I'm someone else my powers are more limited than if I'm myself - I often have "memories" of only being able to use one type of power, so I don't think to try anything else.

Do you know this person? or know of them? Any idea where this character came from?
All my dream personalities are entirely made up. They are so often combinations of me and complete fabrication, anyway. Even when they're not, sometimes I can see they are influenced by outside factors - once I dreamed I was a character I was working on for a story in real life, but when it comes down to it I made her up as well - just when I was awake. In another instance, I had the same name as an alias I commonly used on the internet - but aside from that, she was made up while I was sleeping. Therefore I would have to say my dream personas are primarily originating from my subconscious and only occasionally from any conscious ideas I might have.

I know what you mean, Stormy. I finally get to post- yay!

How in depth are you as this character?

Pretty much the only thing that's different about me is my body. I might know a few more things that are specific to the character, but I'm always sure it's me.

Do you have memories specific to this person?

Not really deep ones, but I'll recognize some DCs. The other night I was some dude named Carlos and knew who his gf was.

What are their physical characteristics?

A lot of times I find that I'm hispanic for some reason. I do have some spanish in me, but not enough to stand out in dreams. Odd... The other night I dreamt I was a little girl too. THAT was weird! eek2 I don't mind other guys, but that freaked me out!

What kind of personality do they have?

Usually they're a lot like me. Funny, witty, charming, strong, good looking, modest... siiw Slight differences of course, but that's to be expected.

How are they different from you?

Sometimes they can have mood swings. Like they'll get angry or scared easily and attack people.
dark

Do you know this person? or know of them? Any idea where this character came from?

Usually I don't know them at all. I do tend to think up some good looking people though... What's weird is then I might see them a while later IRL. This happens a lot with regular DCs too. Creepeh...

For me this is what LDs are all about.

How in depth are you as this character?

It varies from tokenly to totally.

Do you have memories specific to this person?

Well they often know the area and the people around where they are in the dream, and this must involve them having memories that I don't have. But I've never specifically tried to remember things as another person, that would be a good experiment, I'll try it.

What are their physical characteristics?

Afaik the same as they are in waking life, but I don't notice this much, being on the inside like.

What kind of personality do they have?

Very different from mine! I find them sensational, often very wise, sensitive and happy.

How are they different from you?

I'm a grumpy old sod and they're the opposite.

Do you know this person? or know of them? Any idea where this character came from?

Sometimes I choose people I know, sometimes people from history, sometimes people from past dreams or other psychic experiences.
